If my memory serves me correctly, there is one ground and two positive wires going to each brake light. One positive wire (the dark brown one) turns the brake light on part of the way when you turn on the parking or headlights. There is another positive wire (yellow, I think?) that controls the brighter lights when you actually press the brake pedal. I think the license plate positive lead is actually green. Hope that makes sense... If it wasn't so late, I'd go take them apart to double-check. Maybe tomorrow
