First off we must say thank you to the following:
Saturn of Ontario:
Provided us with a place to meet, we just about filled their lot to capacity!
Filled our tummies with plenty of snacks. Hotdogs, cakes, chips, coldcut sandwich, soda's and water.
Bill and Gail:
Provided us with a home at the top of Big Bear. They also provided us with fresh fruit, soda's, water, chips, cheese, crackers, coldcuts, and a rest room.
Crimson Avenger:
Leading us, and trying his hardest to keep us all together. Their was a lot of radio traffic with him and those that had radios trying to do this. At one point he was challenged by a truck across the roadway, while trying to avoid a collision he found the headlights of another truck coming straight at him. His training from the prior day was put to use and all went well. Nice driving Vince!
The Middlemen:
Fakebill who brought it all together in record time, and those at the Sky forum
The drive:
We left Saturn of Ontario and headed to get fuel. A Sky that showed up late and met us there was hit as a pick up backed into him. Their was minimal damage and he was able to continue driving with us.
As we approached highway 18 we discovered it was closed and had to head up the mountain on highway 330. This was anice drive and we were just about all nose to tail. We stopped at the rest stop along the lake, and also at the school house. Several pictures by many members were taked at both locations. If anyone has a site to add pictures to let us know so that I and others can post ours.
We also stopped at a members home in Big Bear, the kids in the neighbor hood really liked the cars. Kind of cool to have kids really take notice. Amazing how many cars fit in the driveway!
We split from there with around 12 members going to dinner in Redlands, and the rest of us traveling home. The ride down highway 18 to Victorville was indeed a challenge, the car loved it and if I had done the Willow Springs training class it may have been quicker. Pretty bad when you can go faster than a motorcycle in front of you.
What we saw:
Many cars had some modifications done, many were one of kind:
The largest wheels were 22", the fanciest had the original pontiac indian head on the inside of the rim and the current logo on the spokes, many different types of exhaust systems could be found (magna flow, corvette, custom), lighting: focal HID lighting, LED style tail lights, not to mention all the different trim upgrades.
I have pictures and if you are interested I will email them to those that request them via PM. Leave e-mail address and keep in mind they are large files.
Unfortunately for me, CADREAMIN ran into high winds and blowing debri on the way home. Winds from the Lucerne to Adelanto were severe, with sand out conditions in several locations. The windshield will need to be replaced and more than likely the lights and front bumper cover. Well what can one do other than call the insurance company. Thats why I pay for a 100 dollar deductible.
Thanks to those who participated and made this the event that it was!
