Spec Miata is wildly popular because the entry into the class is $3000 for the chassis and only $2000-$3000 for additional hardware and/or $4000 for a "used SM car." Spec Miata isn't really a series, it's just a ruleset. If you are talking about a series like the MX-5 cup, that would really be up to someone to make a rule set, organize races, and try to attract people to build cars.
