That is not that unexpected. Difficutly shifting into reverse, a "blocked" shift per say, is an inherit characteristic with the Aisin transmission. Anything more than, say 20% might be cause to have the car inspected.

Shifting habits, as one could guess, can also effect the frequency.

GM's thoughts on the procedure to follow are:

1) shift into 1st gear

2) move vehicle forward slight

3) stop and shift into reverse.

Note: By shifting the transmission into reverse while the vehicle is moving will increase the tendency to block-out due to damage of the meshing teeth and would be considered abuse
