Pontiac Solstice Forum - View Single Post - 2.4 Turbo - blown engine [rumor, non-substantiated]

I was at Split Decision yesterday. Met Kyle. We talked about this topic among others. He and the owner went with the Hahn kit, because they had heard so many good things, and never experienced or heard anything negative. Kyle and his business partner have really only done 2 Solstice conversions, (the other one for someone in Coquitlam), as they specialize in Toyotas and Hondas.

The guy is a drfit racer - one of 5 in the valley apparently. We have an oval track in town, which was built a couple of years ago. Drifting has only just started to catch on here.

What he said about this Solstice/Hahn kit was that something happened, which caused the engine to immedialely fail. He said there was no burning of components, no ring scoring, no other signs of early damage. Just a melted down piston, which looked to be an instantanious problem. He said, at this time they thought it might be injector related.

The engine has been torn down and is being re-built with stronger internals. Hahn has information on this incident, and Mr Hahn is aware of this thread.

Frankly, when I started this thread, I expected to hear lots of "Ya that happens if.." type stories, but so far you guys seem to have proved that this is a VERY isolated incident. I think that, in itself, speaks volumes about the quality of this little car, and of the Hahn kit. Nice to know that there are so many people with this kit out there that have had a quality experience with it.

Anyone know just how many 2.4's have been converted? I saw a DDM thread where there were 12 or 15 Supers. Gotta believe there are many more turbos.
