No they are not. A package is totally different than a long block.
The GM LSx long block from the 4.8 to the 6.0 (I am not sure about the 7.0) are basically the same outside size without the oil pan, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds and ALL other bolt on accessories. BUT the accessories and there locations that make the engine a package very from vehicle to vehicle. For example they have something like 4 or 5 different oil pans that will affect the lower cross member clearance. The trucks have a much taller intake manifold that has the intake at the top and that will affect hood clearance. The cars have a manifold with the intake at either the front or rear end of the manifold. If you have a rear oriented intake like on every front wheel drive GM V8 that I can think of, how can it breath under the windshield up against the fire wall? Can the manifold be turned around? Not as easy as it sounds. Trucks also have larger alternators and some have two alts. that will affect hood clearance. The front wheel drive V8's have a significantly different accessory arrangement compared to the rear wheel drive V8's. This also affects the heater lines and radiator hoses and were the AC lines are routed. Front wheel drive V8's have an exhaust system that is TOTALY UNCOMPATABLE with rear wheel drive platforms. Several exhaust manifolds form different front wheel drive V8 cars will have the cats or pipes going to different angles. The front wheel drive engines have a GM V6 bell housing bolt pattern and the rear wheel drive V8's have the SBC bell pattern.
Bottom line is YES some V8's WILL fit better than others even if the engine long block is a 4.8 or 7.0. If you TOTTALY strip off ALL the bolt on stuff and put on all custom stuff, then they are the same.

I will own a V6 Kappa even if GM does not offer one as an engine upgrade. I have made my mind up, I want the Cadillac CTS 3.6L V6 with a 6 Speed manual tranny. And I will do the conversion my self if I have too :)
