Motorcyclist dies on "the Dragon"
A motorcycle crash on a curvy stretch of U.S. 129 in the Smoky Mountains killed a Maryland motorcyclist.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported 21-year-old Jarrett Andrew Proctor of Brandywine, Md., lost control of his cycle Monday night after taking a curve at high speed.
The trooper's report said the motorcycle skidded about 230 feet, went off the road and struck a tree.
The section of highway is called "the Dragon," and is favored by many motorcycle riders because of its curves. The road winds around the western side of the park, near the North Carolina border.
The report said Proctor was wearing a helmet.
