Here is my experience with aftermarket clutches......
I started with a SPEC 2+ (with stock flywheel), and the pedal pressure was light comparable to stock, but eventually it started wearing abnormally even though its torque spec. matched my application. Customer support was lacking and in this business that's a suicidal mentality for any vendor. I will never go back to them....enough said.
Now I have an Excedy clutch matched to a Spec pressure plate (Excedy confirmed through Dave that it was OK to do that), and so far no slippage, but the pedal pressure increased a bit above stock, but nothing major.
The only two issues I have with that package:
1/ The heavy chattering during take off, it throws the prop shaft into resonance and clunks like crazy, unless I rev the engine a bit (1500 RPM) along with a somehow aggressive clutch engagement. The clutch material, I am told is a carbon/ceramic mix? which creates a pretty aggressive mu-slip curve, hence the chattering. Also all aftermarket clutches will lose the dual torsional dampener used on the stock unit and once we do that, kiss bye-bye to smooth take off.
2/ After a bit of driving, it seams like the clutch pedal engagement changes on me, to the point that engaging gears becomes a bit difficult, unless I rev the engine a bit to help with synchronization. After talking with Dave, we suspect it could be clutch hose feeding the slave cylinder that start expanding due to a bit heavier pressure plate??? Anyone out there with a heavier pressure plate that is experiencing the same??? If nobody else is, then there is something else going on that cannot be too good.....
If i had it my way, I'll put a T56 6 speed with a custom bell housing to match the Ecotec bolt flange and a biffed up diff from a STS-V or something like that.
There's got to be someone out there that can build a decently matched clutch/gearbox/diff/prop/axles package for our application.....maybe Mallet? how about a group buy discount, anyone else interested ;-)
