My thermodynamics disagrees with your conclusion.
All oils work the same if they pass the grade spec. Different oils will last different amounts of time before degrading, nothing else.
I think he's trying to say that the different oil helped extract more heat from the engine, not that it reduced the amount of head transfered to the oil or by decreasing friction.
My question is surrounding lower temps, is that always better? Probably not.
