I've owned VAG products before. The reliability isn't anything to be proud of. The VR6, and 3.2l will never see 300 whp without F/I and for those of us power hungry, that's boo-boo. The LNF is capable of that.
Before reliability due to modding comes up- it's part of getting your hands in there. If you're modding a car, you stand that chance.
Having said all that, I think blau has something. It would be something special to hear the kind of V6 grunt underneath you. It may never see the power gains on the cheap like the LNF can, but the experience would be wholly different.
I'd be cool either way.
In terms of outrunning a V8. My S/C 2.4l outruns modded Mustang GT's all the time.
