From past experience dealing with the SEB on classing issues, they are much more likely to reclass a car, especially downwards, based on actual times at nationals than just on speculation of it's performance potential. They not only want to see that it is significantly outclassed presently but that it would not be an overdog in the lower class. Not taking the car to Topeka was a major mistake IMHO, no matter how badly they felt it might do. Why bother spending all that money prepping a(n outclassed) car, requesting it be reclassed, then not proving the point by driving it at nationals. Looks to the masses that they possibly wanted to hide the car's true potential to be competitive ASP/overdog BSP car. If it's performance at Topeka proves it is an underdog in front of most all the SEB members (they not only want to see the times, but how competently driven it was as well) resulted in reclassification, it was money/time well spent vs what was already invested. Staying home may result in the SEB saying that it has not yet demonstrated it is an underdog so they leave it as currently classed, and all that prep money was wasted on a(n underdog) car. It is even harder to get a reclassing thru after it has been rejected previously.
