thanks Chemist...and it looks like you did the piston upgrade on the front as well right? They have the package w/ just slotted rotors, new brake lines, fluid and HPS pads...that's what I was thinking of getting.
Appreciate your quick reply! Hope its as nice in Lubbock as it is here in FL...top down day for sure!

Use for these is mostly on street driving not on track/ strip.
Main goal is to decrease braking distance/ improve response.
Thanks!
It seems your goals aren't going to be met. It is generally well known that aftermarket kits aren't going to improve braking distance or response on the street. The car has more than enough brakes for the street, enough to lock up the tires and engage ABS at any speed.
If you want to stop sooner get better tires.
Aftermarket brakes are superior over stock on the track where they can take the heat and abuse without fading.
And aftermarket brakes have bling appeal.

he's right actually, the only thing that really will increase your performance is maybe some hawk hps pads and some stainless steel brake lines, our rotors are perfectly fine for street use.
ok..good feedback...I was reading the most recent Car and Driver and it seems every time the Sol gets tested, we get trounced by other sports cars on braking distance....I'm not looking at it right now, but it was like 20-30 ft. vs. the Nissan 370...I was just looking to help make the 400hp slow down a little quicker when someone pulls in front of me in traffic or I have to make an otherwise unexpected stop...

I have Michelin PS2's on mine, so I did that, but thought the brakes would be a better upgrade as well...so you think the longer stopping times are more related to the tires than the braking system that is stock?

See my first post. Note how tires and brakes were discussed....

Hi DDM:
If you do the brake upgrade package does the antilock braking still work on the car?
How's the noise w/ the HPS pads as well?
Use for these is mostly on street driving not on track/ strip.

Thanks!
Hello,
The braking system will work just fine with the upgraded brakes.
The HPS pads are good for the street and offer more initial bite than the stock pads and can take more heat than the stock pads so they offer better fade resistance.
There have been many good responses on this thread and the tires set the ultimate coefficient of friction against whatever surface you are on, so the more sticky tires you are running the faster you can stop. Upgraded brake components just help to do that more than one time If you had to pick one thing to change on the braking side, I would suggest pads as they will make the most difference in initial bite and fade resistance and are the best bang for the buck when it comes to brakes. Then look at things like fluid as most people do not realize how much moisture the stock fluid will absorb over time, which lowers the boiling point of the fluid, and this is something that is relatively inexpensive and overlooked often.

emphasis is mine, but I would tend to disagree that the stock pads can lock up the tires and engage ABS at any speed. The stock pads do work fine for most people, but a fast stop from 100+mph will overheat the front pads and they are pretty much done if you try to lock up the brakes again from 100+mph. Once again this is not something the average user will notice or do, but even repeated heavy braking from lower speeds will cause the brakes to fade. This is were the upgraded pads really help out and are a good bang for the buck type item. Good pads and fluid will go a long way to improving your brake system.
