Idea for variant of gauge/radio surround…

I have recently been hypnotized by the forthcoming coupe, and have been looking at the DDMWorks 3 gauge/single DIN chassis for adding essential gauges (oil pressure, water temp, volts) that Pontiac should have included in the first place.

I put forth the idea that a new model be considered, one with FOUR (adding boost to the above list) gauges & a sleek mount/docking station for an iPhone. There would be a 2x2 matrix for the gauges, with the iPhone in a vertical orientation on the right side of the chassis. The iPhone would be the sole A/V source…

That would be

Where would the radio go?

There would be no traditional radio, the iPhone would be (as stated in the original post) the only audio source. Said iPhone would fit into the vertical space to the right of the gauge cluster. Obviously, the trick at this point would be to connect the iPhone dock output to an amplifier (which in turn attaches to the speakers). This could be something as simple as a stereo RCA output from the dock, keeping in mind that the amp used would need some sort of 'soft' power up & down, to avoid the harsh popping sound that might occur when inserting or removing the iPhone. (I liken this to the sound made when one plugs or unplugs an electrical instrument from an amplifier)

This would allow a good gauge package without resorting to an A-pillar pod setup (too 'ricey' for me...!), and allow for a unique removable audio & cellphone solution in the Solstice.
