Chemist,
Wipe that smile off your face, get more gas and enjoy the ride. You can get better milage if you try, but it isn't as much fun.

The new 'backbone', I have one as well and it really tightens the car up. I'm sure Dave will anounce it soon.

Well, thanks to my 2-1/2 day automotive seminar two weeks ago (AKA Dave answering all of my questions while he installed my S/C) and a phone call to Dave this afternoon, my car is back up and running after I blew both my serpentine and power steering belts off this afternoon while doing 0-60 runs outside of town.

I had not checked my belt tension after my last long road trip, and hit the rev limiter on my second run. This combination of factors (both errors mine ) led to the "parting of the ways" of the serpentine belt, which apparently took the power steering belt with it.

It took me longer than it probably should have to reinstall the belts, but it's done. I'm waiting for it to cool back down so I can retension the serpentine belt.

Lessons learned:

1) Check the belt tension periodically.
2) DDMWork's customer service rocks!
3) Our cars are hard to steer without the power assist.
4) The benefits of Stage II S/C are quickly missed when you don't have them.

Been there, done that, on the side of the road...... Stage 1 belt change wasn't bad, Stage 2 is a bit more challenging.. Long, thin arms BIG benefit... Check my belt often now and always carry a spare with the tools needed just in case. Haven't had an issue since the first time though.. Hope your still enjoying it..

I had/have a spare serpentine in the trunk. I'll run get a spare power steering belt in the morning.

I'd be hard pressed to install a new one without ramps or jackstands, though. I'm sure it _can_ be done, but I'd rather not.

Still enjoying it? That's a _GROSS_ understatement. I _love_ it!

Sorry about your belt trouble...now you're really a member of the club.

As you've learned, it helps to carry the appropriate tools and spare belts (that power

steering belt is hard to find...buy two).

I wish I could find a belt made of Kevlar or some-such material that won't stretch. I find

that it won't stabilize at 70 lbs. Gets tighter with heat, then loosens when it cools.

Ah well, I'm getting really good at changing belts...first one took 20 minutes...now, I've

got it down to five.

Thanks, Jack. I _do_ feel like I've passed a test of some sort, a rite of passage, as it were.

I'm going in the morning to get a spare PS belt (or two).

It's the rapid change of engine speed when you are over 7k that stretches the belt, when you hit second and the engine slows to 6k or so the SC is doing about 15-16k and the belt jumps off

I have never lost a belt under 7K

Dave and I had that very conversation in SC. It was my hitting the limiter and missing the shift to 3rd that (I am certain) parted my belt.

Well, I took my car to a local car service place, one that does a lot of performance work and has worked on my car before (replaced broken catalytic converter studs), to get my annual state inspection done.

It really seemed to be taking along time, and I started to worry about how long the service tech was spending under the hood, until it hit me:

He wasn't INSPECTING the car any more, he was LOOKING at it.

After he brought it back around to the front of the shop, he and another tech/mechanic came in and both remarked how good the system looked and asked if it made good power. I said, "Thanks, and yes, it makes GOOD power."

They reminded me that they have a chassis dyno.

So, ... thanks again, Dave and Randy, for a great product and great support.
