The others, as you mentioned, were to be shredded. First they were sent to various dealerships to be used as show models (not even as demos).
.
My dealer had one of those here for a show the week before my 1st 1K showed up. The dealer personnel were not even allowed to drive it. It was flat-bedded from the Chicago area to here, unloaded for a day at the dealership, and then flat-bedded again to the show. After the show, it was flat-bedded again back to the Chicago area.
While at the dealership, one of the newer salespeople took it for a ride around the parking lot while I was there, and he was immediately hauled into the owners office and left several minutes later looking severly chastized.
I assume that Pontiac had several of these Solstices setup a strictly "show cars". I know that the first Skys to be shown in this area arrived at the dealers in a custom trailer, accompanied by the Saturn caretaker. Dealer personnel were not allowed to open the trunk or engine compartment, sit in the car, or anything else. They were only allowed to "look".

#366 is alive and well in Commerce Township. 5600 miles so far, with only a few scratches that will be taken care of in September.

How did you get a pre production? Was that the one from Phoenix that was in the showroom? If it is I tried to buy it and the sales manager told me that they could not sell pre production cars because they are not street legal due to safety issues. They were for display purposes only.
Nope,,,like gizmo mentioned,,,pre-production went to GM employees with certain restrictions applied...
That's me, Mr. Brinton from Meridian ID AKA vinny #000001
Is it true someone came up to you at the event and offered you 100k for your car? I've read that in a couple of places, and wondered if it's true. If it is, I don't blame you for not selling. Totally cool that you have that thing....
Was it a contest to get the first one?

Hey I'm nuts4dietcoke and aome guy from the forum said that if I had not taken delivery of the #1 Sol that he would have given me 100k but I did not believe him. I would have kept it anyway and no it was not a contest It was a random pick from the first cars off the line which were black. Lucky I guess

I guess I didn't explain very well. He said that I could not take delivery and then sell it to him. I had to give him the right to take delivery so that it was never titled in my name and I never put any miles on it and when I had heard that offer I had already taken delivery.
I am new to the Solstice family. I purchased my baby 1 week ago from a Northern CA dealer. It was originally ordered and was delivered 10-1-05 to a man and his wife. Soon after getting the car she found out they were going to have a baby and decided to get a bigger car. As luck would have it the dealer got it back with 1100 miles on it. I found it 7 mo later still on the lot and I got a great deal on it. It is fully loaded except for on-star. It has every bell and whistle you could put on the 1st 1000. The color is Sly and it has an all black interior. I LOVE IT. When I purchased it new/used with 1100 miles on it, I got it for way below the price of the new ones. (Most dealers here at putting $4999.00 on-top of the mrsp. So I was tickled to get a really good deal. My Vin# is 735. I am proud to be part of the family!
