These kind of posts are rediculous. If you're going to mod, be prepared to do it yourself or find a custom shop that caters to this kind of stuff. No Honda shop would be willing to put a fart can on your Civic. I had to take our Civic four times to have the hood painted because they kept "f"ing it up. Overspray, wrong color, yada, yada, yada. I also had a 2001 Tacoma from the all mighty Toyota and they refused to fix the crazy rattle from the dash. Dude, dealerships are gonna do what they want. Its just the way it is. I do all my mods myself because I want it done right. Its just what I have come to accept.
Having owned many gm vehicles in the past........some good
some terrible, I'll tell you this....The new GM will start off
customer friendly..nice looking cars, promtions etc, etc.
because they will struggle big time.....many have lost confidence in this company and will run to ford or toyota. But before you know it, the new GM will be just like the old gm, only smaller. Cars that are better than those produced in the past, but with no resale value and little regard for the customer once they walk out the door. I hope they survive, which in my opinion is questionable, only for the workers sake that have familiies to support.
thats what i will miss the most with my now closed saturn dealership. They gave a sh1t and were all about the customer. too bad they made too many sh1tty cars, the service has been unmatched in my area. Now i have to hope the next place knows how to use spacers to lift the car without cracking the lower fenders.......I am so fearing my inspection next year.......crunch
A service dept won't touch a car without it being an hours rack fees.. I know the PTs have a tranny "quick learn" for the auto's it takes 15min with the OBD thingy and a tranny tech pushing buttons but you get charged an hour PERIOD.
You use a dealers service dept for crap no one else will want to touch, or recalls stuff like that.. You find a local indie to do all your work, better yet find a corvette shop to do your work or help you out.. We have lift it like a vetter at least these guys will have a clue how to do that.. I've found people lifting the sol is a nightmare and a half..
Sorry a service dept won't touch that backbone since when you have a problem with it - it will be their problem.. They don't wan't problems only money from fixing run of the mill problems.

This is NOT an attack on the OP, but rather a comment in general. WHY do people invent complaints about the car or the GM ? Either here or the Sky forum somebody hit the roof because he busted the speaker screen on the drivers door, found he had to buy a door panel, and GM is screwed up. Well, that's the way door panels are made on just about EVERYTHING these days. Soon, somebody will blame GM for their flat tires!!!!
The 1 hour minimum is ABSOLUTELY fair. Think not? Have Sears send a repair man to service a refrigerator out of warranty. Knock, knock, "Hello". BINGO - MINIMUM 1-2 hour labor !!!!! Thinks parts are overpriced? Friend of mine blasted his gearbox in his 05 Mini. NO PARTS AVAILABLE - NOT serviceable per BMW and Getrag. Cha CHING !!!!!!!! $2950 for a new box that ALSO is a throw away if IT breaks.
Give it a rest folks. Don't like GM? Why did you buy a GM car. Sell your car and move on. Want to KEEP your GM car that you have issues with or about? Fine. But why do the rest of us have to suffer with angst you have with that decision? I am sure I will get some push back for this, but I have been polite and civil. No malice is intended towards anyone, but I just had to vent.

I suggest that he try a local independent muffler shop. I use a guy who owns a small muffler shop who has done several jobs for me. No one-hour minimum stuff. He drives a tricked-out 'vette, a cool F-150, and rides a Harley. He understands the culture and works with enthusiasts. He and I are both happy with the deal each time.
I understand the dealership shop pricing model - understand it, but don't necessarily like it. They have a lot of overhead, and the shop has to carry their share of the load (and often more.) After all, they are in business to make a profit, not break even or take a loss just to keep those of us happy who don't have the wherewithal to fix (or modify) our own cars. And any dealership is absolutely within their rights to refuse to install any aftermarket products is they so choose got whatever reason - if for no other reason because of the risk they might encounter in this hyper-litigious society in which we live.

As for minimum shop time, other than fixing a flat, oil change, or wiper blades (THAT sort of stuff) just about ANY auto repair facility is going to change a minimum rate, and they usually post that right at the service write up desk. And boats, and bikes, and computer shops, and just about everywhere that fixes ANYTHING.
IT ISN'T GM's FAULT AND THE DEALERSHIPS ARE NOT WRONG IN DOING THIS.

Location: Under an invisibility cloak, somewhere in the Northeast
Just translate into a different product and see how it looks.....
Would you stay away from Budweiser because the local tavern has a cover charge?
Would you stay away from McDonalds becuase they wouldn't cook some type of meat you brought in?
Also, as far as some of the predictions about the "meet the new boss, same as the old boss" kind of things. I believe that those that post along these lines and totally underestimating the power of bankruptcy to void out a 100 years of negotiated and agreed upon operating agreements.
The dealerships that were choosen to move forward with GM have signed virtual blank contracts, call them even "blank checks". GM will come back on the future and fill in the blanks as to facitity requirements, locations, stocking levels, capitalization, CSI standards and the like.
Guess we will just have to sit back and see.
