Wife won't allow me to buy a Sol without Auto, so i have to wait... problem is that no dealers that i've spoke to really know when the Auto will come out. From reading the FAQ and earlier threads, most folks say Feb'06, anyone have firmer news about this? Also, the dealers can't seem to order the sol with Automatics yet, any idea when that would open up? i want a real order, not a promise from a deal
And her friends will think she is so cool for learning. Maybe if you can get her to watch Danica Patrick at Indy next sunday, she'll get "the bug".
With this type of car, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that an automatic reduces the resale value. (Or maybe not, since autos will be in shorter supply.)
GM knows exactly how many autos to make - however many Miatas that go out with autos, they will do the same ratio. they aren't going to stubbornly produce manuals if buyers want autos, and to market this car sucessfully to women, I would bet 80% of them sold to women will be autos.
There is no specific date other than some time next year. The Feb 06 date probably originates from the anticipated launch of the Saturn Sky which will supposedly have the auto right from launch.
Just be patient and keep an eye on it! We'll know eventually.

Another reason NOT to produce the automatic version!

Not really. She learned how to drive a stick at an early age and has always enjoyed it in a sporty car. We have four cars, three with autos and one stick. Her daily driver has the stick. Go figure.
My three daughters (yes that's why my hair is grey) all had to learn to drive a stick. At first they thought it was crazy but when they started to date and the guys couldn't drive a stick and they could, they thought it was pretty cool.

My little sister is 14 and a freshman in high school, and my dad actually wants to buy my car off of me for her when I buy my sol. I personally don't like the idea. Primarily cause the mustang has no weight on the rear wheels and will easily go into a spin when the pavement is slick and you give it too much gas around a turn. I think she should learn to drive stick, but on my dumptruck. It has a 100,000 mile drive train warranty, and the only way you can stall it out is dump the clutch with your foot STANDING on the brake.

Take her out now on a deserted parking lot and teach her yourself - with your dumptruck, then gradually introduce the mustang. She might surprise you. Dannica Patrick and Milka Duno had to learn at an early age. Maybe she has Indy or LeMans in her future. Oh and you could disconnect a couple plug wires to detune the mustang while she learns.
