Hi,
I've been trying to figure out what's wrong.
I have a 2008 GXP with the monsoon setup, 6 cd changer and xm radio. I'm trying to figure out how I can play MP3 files on the radio using the CDROM.
I burned a CD with a bunch of MP3 files and placed it in the cd player. I get an error message on the radio. But if I use the same brand cd and create an "audio" cd rom... it works fine.
Is there a special format for the MP3 files? Or something I'm missing?
I'm assuming I HAVE the mp3 capabilities in this stereo...am I wonrg? How can I tell?

The US9-6 Disc Radio does have the ability to play MP3s.
Until you can get to your owner's manual, here is a link to an older thread that may be helpful with some ideas on what could be happening:

What application are you using to burn the MP3 CD? Have you checked to make sure that your firmware and application for the burner are up to date? The standards change fairley frequently and I have had plenty of times when a CD burned on one burner would not play while the same data burned on a different drive worked just fine. The difference was the currency of the software and firmware.
I have micro IPODS that cost almost nothing right now and will act as a 150 song play list.

You know that may be the problem. I'll check the page small dealer indicated and try it on a more up to date computer. I think the one I have is at least 5 years old. I figured any old "data cd" burn would work.

An MP3 file is an MP3 file. Make sure you only burn MP3 or WMA files to your disc. M3u play list files are okay too, are you sure you didn't include any cover art or text documents along with your burn?
Actually, the issue isn't usually the disc, it is the write speed. Write it slow (e.g. 4X) and it should work. Report back. It works on my 07

DDM extreme backbone and probeam
Well, in the form of an update. I was able to get it working last night. I used the same CD-R cdrom. But this time I used Nero 7 on an XP machine.
I created two disks, one was a "Data Disk" with three folders (alumns) of songs... it worked fine.
Then second one was Nero's "Juke Box Audio Disk"... not sure of the differences, but it worked fine and played the same as the first.
So what are the differences? The first test that didn't work a few days ago was created with VISTA ... using their automatic, built-in, pop-up burner. They must use some non-standard formatting/burn method... surprise...surprise.
So now that I have it working I'll put together 6 disks with "Road Music" that I can leave in the player. I have an iPod but move that from car to car and usually only listen to audio books with it.
I also have XM and listen to "Hair Nation" rock, but they seem to be getting a little "stale" lately.
The best program to use is NERO - Jukebox audio disc burnre n- it creates an mp3 file and always works for me - Not nsure if a data disc copy will do it.

Yes, Nero's a great program, it's German afterall!
On the other hand, I've got at least 20 hours of Polka, Jodlen, and Blassmusik loaded up with Nero, Zune, and Linux Basso burns.
Most likely the problem is what GMO's posted, Vista didn't automatically "finalize" the disc.
