I feel you I usually have a good experience at my dealer since my dad has spent lots of money there on vehicles for both personal and business. In fact since his G6 GXP lease was up he got a 30k G6 GT for 17k. Nope no down payment they knocked all the cash off so it was too hard to pass up. Anyway the oil changes suck. I just got mine on thursday he said it will be about an hour to an hour and a half. I told him I have things to do he was like well we are busy. I had a free oil change so I stayed for an hour and 10 mins. Went to sign the papers and they want a dollar and change. Thought it was suppose to be free since the full charge was 24 something and the free card covers 25 bucks. They deducted 22 and change and wanted the balance. I was pissed because something did not make sense but I figured its a dollar and I just wanted to get the hell out. I am going to nissan for a 370 if I can fund it or else the new camaro...yes still GM on the camaro.

I don't have problems with dealers, I buy the car and leave,I do my own work if something needs doing,
I took my truck to the dealer I got it off last dec. to get a free state inspection sticker, 2 hours later and 31 dollers out of my pocket, I got my truck back with a nice grease spot on the seat.
If I went to the guy I usually take my cars to for inspection it would have cost me 4 bucks more and I would have been outta there in half the time, we tend to bull**** alot about the old days.
I was offered the free inspection when I got the solstice, but I doubt very much they will ever see me there, I think your way better off doing your own work of find a local guy other than a dealer to do your work, I think you will be much happier.
I have dealt with a number of dealers in the area and never had a problem. Maybe the dealers in Canada are better but I have no complaints.
You know guys, if you do a Google search you will find bad dealer experiences from any brand that you type into the search engine.
With the low volumes and the concentrated number of Solstice owners here it seems worst than it is. Many owners are perfectly happy with their dealers, I am.

I've yet to have a single good experience with a GM service department.
I don't mean to say it's usually bad...it's bad 100% of the time.
I dread talking to idiots that don't know 10% of what I do about the Solstice.
This is entirely GM's fault. They have no standards, no training and no recourse to crappy service.
If it were any better at Ford or Dodge, I would have bailed years ago. In the United States, quality and service isn't likely to improve anytime soon. Our society hasn't demanded it for quite a long time. And we keep buying American despite knowing how pitiful the quality and service is...so we're only likely to get more of the same.

I generally do my own work on my vehicles too, but if something goes bad under warranty on a new car, nobody should have to eat the cost or spend their own time to do the repair. The trick is finding a trustworthy dealer.
I have only been completely satisfied with one dealer... ever. A Pontiac dealer. Terrific service department! Well, they went out a business about 8 years ago. Figures.

I know there are bad domestics, as I found one this week in buying mu Bu. However, people are people and the dealership is only as good as the people that work there. I had my absolutely worst dealer experience when I had a Toyota truck. They could never fix it properly and finally said they were not going to uphold the warranty anymore. They basically said it was my fault the truck kept breaking. I proceeded, that same day to Chevy and traded the piece of crap Toyota in on a Chevy Silverado. Since I bought that truck, I have 130K miles on it and no problems what so ever. Since I had that major problem with Toyota, i vowed never to buy a vehicle from them again.
Bottom line, there are good and bad domestic dealers as there are good and bad import dealers.
For RSRIDER--FYI--In October I took my 2008 Solstice in to the local Pontiac Dealer for an oil change, tire rotation and warranty issue (broken pax side door handle). After a couple hour wait, the service writer advised me that my car was ready to go. On opening the driver side door to get in, I heard a loud, metallic popping sound. Further inspection revealed app. $3,000.00 Dollars worth of lower body damage caused by improper placement of the hydraulic lift pads. When I confronted the service manager, he assumed full liability. Damage was repaired by the dealership body shop. I am now the owner of a 2008 Solstice with a history of body damage. The rub is that at least 3 dealership "Goodwrenches" handled the vehicle during and subsequent to the damage (Hyd. lift operator, service driver, service writer). It was left totally for me to discover. This type of thing makes one wonder what else the little "Goodwrench Elves" fouled up that is as yet hidden.

GAH! that's what I'm talking about. Where are the lift pads suppose to be placed on this car? Where, underneath the car, should I look to check for possible prior damage? For that matter, where are the placement points for a hydraulic floor jack? Are they the same as for a lift? I think that asking service manager if his techs know where to place the car on the lift will be the first thing that's going I'm going to ask about. Forewarned is forearmed.
