Does anyone know whether the stock radio is the standard double din size for an aftermarket. Thinking about replacing the stock with a double din-sized A/V Navigational system like the Pioneer.

do you have the steering wheel mounted stereo controls?..if so you may lose this functionality if you replace the stock head unit.....

My understanding is it is a true Double DIN - and that the AVIC will fit. I've been mulling it over for a couple of months - the only thing holding me back, is since the Solstice isn't my daily driver - a $1,600 radio/navigation system seems like a bit of a waste

What I think I'm going to do is get a new Palm PDA (T|X probably) and GPS accesssory. This wouldn't be near as slick as the AVIC, but it would be 1/3 the cost and portable

Next would be to install a mounting bracket similar the DLO transpod.

I have the AVIC-D1 installed in my sol and it looks great. My installer told me that he had a little trouble getting it to fit because the slot is actually a little bit bigger than a standard double DIN. He ended up making a small frame to put it in to make it fit. I don't have a pic but RE Broker took one at a local Seattle meet. You can find it at this link Pacific Northwest Solstice in Seattle

You will not loose anything. You just need to Spend $50CDN "I think that is the price" on a wiring kit that will run to the the back of the head unit to make everything work. I was worried about losing them to, but not anymore after my installer told me that could/would be done.

We were trying to have the Pioneer unit installed but no one knows, including Pioneer, if it would work in the Sol with the steering wheel controls. If you have the number of the extra wiring harness I would really like to put it in my wife's Sol. Thanks for any information you can provide.

WoW! That is soooo slick! I never saw those pics of Ricks car until now. Love the install, piant job, and 19" rims to boot! Yeah, if anyone can post a part number for the extra wiring kit to allow the steering wheel controls to operate the Pioneer unit, that would be awesome! Thank guys again for the feedback.

bamiller72,

did you lose your chimes/warnings? I.E., key in ignition chimes, etc...?

I'm going aftermarket as soon as I can find the right adapter/harness combo.

Scoche says they are making one of these for the Solstice soon.
http://www.scosche.com/press_room.aspx?id=91&year=2006

And I think this adapter will fit, based on it working in the HHR, which has the same radio. http://scosche.com/scosche_caraudio....ItemID=GM1587B

We've been discussing them here. Stereo Wiring Harness, New.

I did lose my warnings, and chimes. Come to think of it I think I lost my turn signal clicks as well. My installer has assured me that as soon as a solution presents itself for this issue he will gladly fix it. Thanks for the link. I'll run this by him and hopefully get this fixed soon. With any luck I can get it installed at the same time as I get the fix for the steering wheel controls done.
