elbow pad/center console

Who among you bright folks have hit on the solution that prevents a sore elbow from the hard surface of the center console? I would sure buy drinks for the best solution for the trip to K.C.or at least a nifty new sticker from the meeting if you're not attending. I gotta believe someone has this covered and I'd love to know what it is before the trip!

I've got something in mind for l and r elbow pads. Just need some more time.

For the time being, for the center console I bought a small black towel and folded it up. Need something better to keep it in place.

Try a computer mouse pad. I have one with a gel pad for the wrist that works perfect for the center console. Put the wrist pad to the back for your elbow and I used a mini bungee cord to hold it in place. Without the bungee cord, it tended to get blown around and cause a distraction. With the bungee cord it stays in place and it provides comfort for both the driver and passenger. Try it, you'll love it.

Every once in a while I "accidentally" open the center cup holders with my right elbow.
Now that's annoying.

I like the gel mouse pad idea.

Open the cup holders daily - every time I release the parking brake.

The gel pad was discussed in another thread somewhere - just not finding it right now

I can't remember where (age and all) but I saw a picture of this already mounted in a Sol with Sand and Steel. It is basically a gel pad like for a mouse, saw one for the knee also, attaches to the side of the consol. Will look further.

Either your arm is to long or you are moving it to much, that is why you are opening the cup holders. Shortening your arm is one painfull sollution.

Ok guys, Solred and others I just got back from CompUSA with my spiffy new Gel/mousepad/elbowrest. It's great, thanks for the idea. I had gotten a 3m stick-up hook for hanging clothes behind the passenger seat for the trip to KC (as suggested in another thread) and used leftover double sided sticky tape to hold the mousepad in place on the console. Solred, I see that you're going to KC, so I'll be happy to buy you the beverage of your choice (others welcome as well) or a shiny new KC meeting sticker, whichever you prefer. Just identify yourself at the meeting so I can thank you properly. -bird

Go to OfficeMax, CompUSA or some store like that. Get a mouse wrist pad or keyboard pad, available in gel or foam. Less than $6 each. A lot cheaper than on line and you have a selection to choose from.

Comp USA has a long gray foam keyboard wrist pad that is just the color of the steel/sand 'cept it's covered by a kind of cloth that shows dirt. I spent a lot of time cutting one of these down to fit the drivers door arm rest but I'm not happy with the way it looks.

Thanks smartin!

birdliver,
If you think the arm rest for the driver is bad, you should try being a passenger for a while. The parking brake handle is murder on the elbow on long hauls. See the link smartin made to my previous thread and you can see the suggestions I got.

I am still in the prototype testing stage. That's why I haven't posted a reply to my thread yet. I have something that actually works fairly well, but it's not as clean and easy as what I want. So far I have tested every suggestion given, and none get it done by themselves. Right now I am using the "3 piece" technique (made out of 3 parts). One thing I haven't bought yet is one of those small beany bag things, because I am having a hard time finding one (Last year they were everywhere). I found one in a neck support version, but the size and shape won't work well. But using it for the feel of things, I think it might provide the best overall protection. Either way, I think it's going to take a little piecing together of parts to get it around the handle right.

When I get mine worked out I'll post it for everyone. Of course if there are others that have already been there and done that, I'd love to see more ideas. Thanks.

Bonzo,
My second choice at CompUSA to the mousepad I chose was a kidney shaped one for the wrist that was filled with very small beads. It was quite thick and the bead effect was nice, like the bean bags, but it was a little too small and I thought it would be hard to keep in one place without it moving around. It felt great though. The one I got was pretty thick, made of memory foam and not a perfect fit but it was black, oval shaped and out of the package and the last one so the manager gave it to me for four bucks. Good deal!
