I agree, it seems there are far more "social networking" radar/laser app users with smartphones than there are radar/laser countermeasure users not surprisingly. There are a lot more people that are willing to spend $500+ on a phone and add an app, then there are people willing to spend $400-500 on a detector.
Again, it boils down to how high the usership is in your area.
And if you prioritize a smart phone over a detector in terms of your personal finances, then you're probably better off using trapster/waze in terms of getting the most bang for your buck (which is what I'm guessing if you're shopping in the $200 range for a detector).
But yah, if you stick to major metropolitan areas, you typically have at least decent help with trapster/waze.
I have Trapster on my I phone, but in my area it's useless. I bought a 9500ix off e-bay 6 weeks ago, and it arrived in one of our US offices, but was lost in shipping from there to me. 350 gone. Not sure what I'll do next.

Ouch, ****ty to hear man. Definitely doesn't seem like it was lost so much as stolen by someone that knew what was in there.
Good luck with a solution.
And yah, trapster/waze are really hit and miss depending on your area.

I just found about about Live and ordered the BT module. I am swapping out my dash for the new one and will as part of that process mount the control module in the dash.
I have not yet experienced Live but have seen other smart phone based generalized apps.

Are you talking about this cord piece?
I've seen hacks of this cord and the original smart cord where people save the face plate with the buttons, and flush mount it to their dash.
I got the hard wired version that includes bluetooth interface.
Ah cool, let us know how it goes.
Dang, $100 for that hardwire piece. I'm gonna try out Live for a year (I sent my Redline in for service recently, and it comes with a year of free Live). If it works well, I'll consider renewing the service. But if it's like what I'm expecting, which is low utility for me based on my particular circumstances (low local user rates of counter measures due to their being banned in my jurisdiction), I have a feeling even trapster/waze will be more helpful . . . but gotta try it first to see. But if it does prove to be helpful to me unlike I expect, I might consider getting that module instead of hacking up the Live smartcord I'm getting when my detector is back from service. We'll see.

I received an offer email from Escort and bought the hardware, including the control unit, cabling and iPhone mount plus one year subscription for $75.
I run with the iPhone in a windshield mount already so this will not make a big change. I am replacing the entire dash so I can fabricate a nice inconspicuous mounting location for the control unit.
I expect to get considerable utility from mine. There are many of them locally in Colorado. I also am looking forward to taking advantage of it while we travel out of state. I am not coming to Va though LOL

Cool, great deal. Similar situation for me . . . I had been running my STi Magnum for about a year now while the Redline just sat because I didn't think the service was worth the cost compared to getting a new STi Magnum at the time. But they had a decent deal going for a full service, new exterior body for the detector, 1 year instead of 6 month warranty, etc, and I jumped on it. Probably wouldn't have otherwise.
But with how much you've spent on punisher, I'm sure the cost of servicing the Redline wouldn't have been an issue for you at all
Yah, as long as you're in a major metropolitan area in the US you should get at least some help with Live.
Do you run trapster/waze as well? It'd be cool to compare trapster, waze and Live in your area and see which is most helpful for you.
Speaking of detector usage, had a nice possible save today. Had a "rabbit" about 1km ahead of me on a 80km/h straight rural road, with occasional hills. Typical "flow" seems to be about 90-95km/h. So on the downhill sections, it's very easy to find yourself around 110km/h, and well into ticket range.
Anyways the 2 generation old merc E320 was doing about 95km/h about 1km ahead of me. I start off with a weak Ka signal, which always gets my attention since I never get Ka falses. Sure enough, a few kms ahead, oncoming cop running constant on Ka. Got PLENTY of warning. From first detection, to actually passing the cop in the opposite direction was was 4.5km, and assuming we were both moving at 80km/h ish (I was since I detected him), that's a maximum detection range of 9km, and safe to say it was at least 6-7km.
Since I had plenty of warning, I let the merc build an even bigger lead, but when he was getting hit with Ka, he was probably doing about 90-95km/h so I guess he was under the cops threshold. I approached the cop doing 80-81km/h since I was going down a hill slightly, and the guy ahead of me went by him 10-15km/h faster, I figured it wasn't an issue, and better to not engage the brakes just in case.
I could have easily been doing 100km/h plus on a downhill section and could have gotten a ticket today were it not for the STi Magnum. At least as good range as my Escort Redline from my experiences so far, and amazing ramp up the Redline could never touch. But like I said, I'm getting a "serviced" Redline back soon, let's see how the two compare then.
