The airbag cover on the dash on the passenger side has now faded to the point that I can't ignore it and other people notice it. It's getting a gray, chalky look to it and getting worse.
Has anyone replaced theirs, and if so, where did you get the part and how difficult was it?
I replaced mine when I painted the dash. You can order it from any online source. Its kind of a pain in the tail to get installed because of how it attaches but last time I checked they are readily available.
Have you considered treating yours to return it to black?
It seems like it would be difficult to get it to match the dash. I was a printing press operator for years and know from that experience that there are many, many shades of black.
My door panels are faded also. I'm going to try some Wolfgang's trim sealant but don't have a great deal of faith that it will be successful.
The problem is that the fading is concentrated by the window reflecting the sunlight and UV rays attacking the plastic. "Dying" or permanently coloring the plastic itself is impossible because it is polypropylene and that will not absorb moisture. Anything you put on it will be a paint or coating and susceptible to wear. Most paints will not adhere to polypro either.
We did work with a product called per-fix a few years back.
