Front Plates

Well, it finally happened, I had to install my front plate. The rent-a-cops at Fort Eustis and USJFCOM won't let cars on base if they don't have a front plate (Virginia). Don't know what they do for the other 49 states that may pass through the gate. I did make a custom rig to drop the plate down even with the bottom of the grill so it's low enough to not block the grill and high enough not to scrape on my way out of the driveway.

I guess parking my car in the first row without a front plate was just too much for some pencil pusher to let slide by...

That sucks. Can rent-a-cops actually do that?

Thanks, that looks pretty good. But it looks just low enough to scrape every once in a while. But I'll look into it none-the-less

I love that bracket. I work at a federal facility without rent a cops but with a real active federal police force. So far (1 and 1/2 years of no plate) no problems. I did not think they were interested in enforcing state laws on federal property. If I ever do get hassled or a ticket, this is the bracket I want to install. That way, I can stop at the light before I go in, run out and pull out the plate and drive in.

What would be really cool is a button you can push from inside the car that makes the plate automatically pop up.

It was really easy to install!! Didn’t use the screws and hardware that came with the mount, I had to put the front up on ramps to drill the holes for the screws. Used 1/8X1/2” sheet metal screws, put two in the lower lip of the fascia and one in the baffle below the intercooler. Added a piece of neoprene rubber where the back of the plate mount where it touches the fascia to protect the paint.

My strategy if I get pulled over for no front plate I will flip out and tell cop that I had just washed it and forgot to flip it up when I was done.

It does look low but I haven’t scraped it yet.

I think autoloc makes a kit for this kind of thing.

I don't remember who posted it, but somebody here had posted a clip of a plate set up very much like yours Dave, only powered. Hit the button, the plate slide under the bumper. Go the other way, and it flipped it back up. I'm pretty sure it was on a Vette and probably used the same kit you installed. It was really slick .

Man you got to be careful going in driveways!!!! Had my plate folded down and dragged it going in to the church parking lot this morning. No damage to the Sol but I had to do a touch up on my plate as some of the lertters were scraped badly.

Thats why we need the button to push and have the plate pop up. Just for steep driveways.

Somebody is going to crack the code and make it so.
