Carlintexas and Stuck have theirs on order, and Jrdallas pioneered it with something similar. The Texas caravan to the nationals is going to look strange with all of these. O.K., stranger than normal..
Every available Option including On*Star
2.5" Stubby Black Antenna
Lil' Chromies
Solstice License Plate Frame (not really a mod)
Norms Fenders
Holes in front bumper from plate bracket (custom)
Solo Hi Flow Cat/ 3in dual exhaust
Kappa Intake
I like it. Not a bad solution at all. Might look a bit cleaner if the 'tray' would move in a bit closer to the bumper.
The adapter is what makes it stick out so far, if there was a hitch available with a 2" receiver it would fit snug. I do think I can rework the rack tube to shorten it and redrill a new hole to take a couple of inches out of it. On the other hand, I'm not going to have it on that often, so do I really care how it looks? Well,... maybe.

once I look at the links, I saw that you had to use the 2 inch adapter. Wonder if there is a 1 1/4 rack available? ANyway, you may have solved my golf club problem. And the prices are very reasonable. How much was your hitch?
I'm sorry but I don't like it. I think it looks ridiculous. A trailer hitch is meant for towing trailers big or small but not for toting a suitcase. JMHO.

the hitch is from Curt manufacturing. You can buy it on ebay or from several internet hitch suppliers. It usually runs about 150 with shipping, putting the total cost for hitch rack and adapter around $ 220 total. It only comes in 1-1/4".
Yes, it is ridiculous looking on a sports car, but it isn't being put on for looks. I like it because it doesn't block your view out the back like the rear deck rack, and costs half as much. Once I get where I'm going, it goes in the room along with the luggage, and I'm good to go.

Please don't misunderstand me and I apologize if it came off that I was bashing it. I guess it's because I'm so vein that I could not see myself doing the practical thing if it looks ridiculous. But again the idea is very practical and I see your point regarding not blocking the rear view. So even though I don't wear a hat, it's off to you for your innovation and practicality.

The nice thing about having the receiver is that you can also get accessories to carry bicycles and such. It really bugs me to have to take another vehicle somewhere, say golfing, because I can't get the clubs in. I think this makes a pretty good solution. Appearance wise, fit it closer to bumper, I can live with it. It would come off once you get where you are going.
Available Options
1) receiver hitch & accessories
2) replace exhause system and cut hole in trunk floor to expand
3) trunk mounted luggage carrier
