I think the new coupe will be a winner for GM but I like the style of the convertable better with the humps in the back.

While I love the coupe I am going for the camaro if I can swing it. However I prefer the vert as well. Love my humps.

I love humps and convertibles and I am keeping this baby for ever. Not trading my GXP for anything!

The Coupe really isn't that appealing to me just because once you take off the removable roof you have no where to put it. Until I learned that I used to want it. Oh yeah and after learning that the entire car is the same as the convertible with a different rear deck lid I figured if I really wanted the coupe I could probably save money from my upside down trade and just buy the new rear deck. My solution was buying the Smoothline hardtop I have enjoyed it and figure that will be satisfactory for my needs:

I agree, not having a place to stow the top in the car really hurts it in my opinion.

I love the rag tops. If I have it down & get caught in a sudden storm, I can just put it up. With the removable hard top, I'd have to leave it home in the garage, then what? Also, drive with the top down & when I park it & go inside at work, I put the top up to protect the interior from the elements. Unless I can talk my boss into letting me work from my car.

No way. The humps make the car.

Yep, but if I wanted to take it on a nice road trip, I would want the hard top for security reasons etc... If I was going on a one/two week trip and just had the soft stowable top, I would rather stick with the ragtop.

it would seem a two part hinged panel would solve this issue and be stowed in the back, might cost a fraction more. Easy fix that would have helped sales. Gm needs help in the RD, perhaps hire a few kids that are really good with Lego.

I was thinking that also they named this wrong. Gm comes back with the Camaro, but NO FIREBIRD? This Camaro is really just a GTO/G8 reskined i think? If you look back at the roots of the Firbird back in its concept days you will see a two seater roadster, with humps and a bit on the George Jettsons side. THe Sol could have been marketed as the NEW Firebird since it really reflects the root of that car. THis would have gave it a Name appeal. many people have no idea a Sol from an S2000. For a first time they would have something very new for pontiac with a name many would remember. i bet sales would be 4x more just with "Firebird".

that would cost RD nothing, two simple things to do..

think about a T/A version of this turbo v6 screaming chicken on the hood with400hp 1000 pounds lighter than a mustang/camaro. the sole is almost like an A/C cobra as well if it had v8. So many possible choices.

Yeah, I hear you on that... I'm planning on getting the Solstice Coupe just because I prefer coupes over vert's... I also live in Mi so a rag-top would be too cold for the winter, but I'll prob have my top on 90% of the time, and yeah I was trying to figure out the same for a weekend trip.. Oh well I'll just keep it on and then take it off when I get there or something...

Even with a hinged two part roof, it still wouldn't fit in the back... It's a big roof when you see it in person, but light only at 30lbs...

But I think calling it anything but a Solstice would be a big mistake, because it still is a Sol, unless GM/Pontiac, just changed the sheet metal around, kept it a Kappa then I could see doing it...

But again, I think it was smart on GM's part to do this because it's not going to cost them alot with the Coupe, and now it appeals to more people, both vert lovers like you, and coupe lovers like me...

Dare I say I will probably sell my solstice in a year and get a fisher fury to replace it. Seems I just don't like practicality.
