Howdy! Like most I found this forum in my research on the coveted Solstice (it's just plain sexy!).
I'm in the market for a new car. I've pretty much narrowed it down to a Sol or a Miata (blasphamy, I know). I'd like to get a new one, problem is that my budget will only allow around 24k. So no extras for me...
However... I found an Aggressive 06 Sol with 5,789 miles on her. Fully loaded for 21,900. I've dealt with this dealer before and can probably talk them down to around 19k. I'm going to test drive it tomorrow.

The downsides to an 06 include the warranty and "clunk". The 07's and 08's have 100k powertrain warranty. They also have the fix for the clunk. You may want to drive the 06 for an extended period to get a sense of how much the driveline clunk bothers you (if at all on this particular vehicle). A roadster will always move off the dealers lot faster in the spring. If you can be patient you will surely get a better deal.
There is a GXP here with just 2500 miles for 21K.
Do not get that 06.

My question is, does this sound like a good deal?
OK, Dionysus, so you're considering a Solstice or the Miata?
One of our Solstice Forum members has this (or something similar) in his/her signature:
People buy a Solstice because of its great looks, great handling, and a great price.
People buy a Miata because they've never seen a Solstice.
So, you've seen them both. You have no excuse to make the wrong decision. Whether it's a 2006, 2007, 2008, or wait for a 2009; whether it's an NA or a GXP; you know in your heart what is the right thing to do.

It's an auto (can't drive a stick... more blasphemy).
I took her out for a spin today, and OH MY GOD! Now this is the first sports car I've ever driven (30 years old)... My first thought was "I can't see ****". I mean the windshield is a foot tall, the back glass is the size of a quarter, and the side windows weren't big enough to spit out of. But I got over that after about 5 minutes. I was up to 80mph on the highway before I knew it. Once I got far enough away from the dealership to open 'er up... OMG!!
I agree with the price. I was able to peek around the pc monitor as he was looking it up, and it said they paid 18k for it. Probably false due to the fact that folks might see it.
This is a one car household, and this car is definably not an every day car. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved it! It's just after trying it out... I can't see myself driving it everyday to work, grocery store, ect.
I have also tried out an Eclipse which I hated. A Ford Focus (on the practical list) which I liked. A Ford Fusion which I hated, and a Ford Mustang Conv which I loved. All I got left to try is the Miata.
mine is a daily driver and my only vehicle. Only time i had to make more than one trip was to get my turbo kit from the apt to the garage - even fit four new rims inside with the top up.
Good luck on your quest. Really pound on the miata around the corners, they are a lot of fun as well.

I thought that if an '06 was traded in and was a GM Certified used vehicle, it was changed to the 100K warranty?

I've been driving a Sol for almost 2 years now. There's 3 of us in my family (wife and 11 yr old son), and while we do have another car for the rare times when the 3 of us are actually together, I drive mine pretty much 24/7. I love taking it to the grocery store, I actually spend less cuz I know I have limited space for hauling stuff home.
I'm like the other owners, you buy a Sol cuz you fall in love with it. It's what makes me want to get of bed at 4:30 in the morning to go to work.....I get to drive the car!!!! It's what makes me take the stairs out of my office instead of waiting on the elevator...I get to drive the car sooner.....
So, if you love it, buy one. If you don't, keep looking.... I went from a 98 Trans Am to this beauty and I can't imagine driving anything else......
Good luck with your decision.

I have an 06 Sly that is my daily car. I have NO problem with that WHATSOEVER
I got it with 7k miles for $17K. I'll probably run out of factory warranty because of it's age rather than miles, but that's what extended warranties are for.
What I don't like about this car is, that just about every time i go to a gas station or to the local DIY car wash to hose it down, some less than fortunate person (read: transient) hanging around takes a look at it, assumes I'm loaded because I have a nice car and makes a bee line toward me asking for handouts. 75c, 1.00, anything. Being the nice person that I am (not to mention I don't know if they're packin') i usually give them half of what they ask for, and send them on their way.
