Re: Re-Run

At our meeting on Sunday I proposed re-running the Gold Coast run, or at least the second half that most everyone missed.

Most clubs do runs that take a whole day. Some do runs that go two or more days. That's what runs are. That's what I want to do. So do Shiny and Barry and Reed and a bunch of other people.

We are going to plan runs and they will sometimes be long affairs. Anyone is welcome to join for the whole thing or just a part. We need to calendar these runs and give them the same weight this club currently gives to car shows and meets.

I realize that some of the principals in this group prefer car shows to driving events, but they still have fun on the runs and with all the comments from the general public that we collect, we are essentially a rolling car show. We also stop for food and conversation and we see some great scenery as well as our cars in action. Runs also draw outside participation as members of the MASSC and Hudson Valley and Connecticut groups join us and that expands our horizons.

Let's get this together. I currently need potential dates for the re-run of the second half of last years Gold Coast event. We will start in Northport and end up in a winery in Baiting Hollow. Our course will take us over a variety of roads through some of the most beautiful seaside scenery and the darkest woods on Long Island. There are incredibly fast sections and technical twisties as well as leisurely drives down two lane blacktop.

I am considering running the entire GCR II, starting at the diner in Roslyn, for those who missed out entirely on the last run. Those who want to run the second half only will gather at the Northport meeting spot at the appointed hour and the rest of us will soon roll in. We'll all have lunch together and then start the second half.

This plan should provide the best of all possibilities. A long run for those who want long, a short run for those who prefer short, a chance for all to do something that was missed and an opportunity to take over the parking lot of an eatery and sit around talking about cars!

Let's work on those dates!!!
