You da man, excelsior!
This is the information I've been gathering for you:
1) VIN last 6 digits
2) Forum nic
3) Color
4) Date Delivered To Customer
5) City
6) State
7) Car Name
8) Problems
9) Purchased in State (if out of state)
10) Notes:
11) Dealership Name
12) Solstice Owner Name
13) Solstice Owner Phone
I wouldn't expect you to keep all of those fields, of course.
For the VIN, I'm sure you will format the field to accept leading zeroes for the F1K. Also the VIN should not be unique, to allow for the possibility of one Forum member selling to another, which would show as two records.
My color field is just the first letter of the color, since they're all different first letters.
And the State field should allow for Canadian Provinces and Mexican States, plus Washington DC.
You need to decide if the city/state will be locked in at delivery date or allowed to change if the Forum member moves. I would guess it has to change, since the information most useful is the current location of the car.
At least 3 Forum members do not wish to disclose their VINs, so you need to allow for that also.
Are you going to allow Forum members to enter and update their own data, or will they PM or email their data to you? I presume if they are allowed to update, you will have limitation parameters on the various fields to prevent illogical entries.
I presume you will have this file available for download to any Forum member's computer. I don't know if you would have archives of updated versions, or just the most recent version. In any case, it should have an uploaded date and/or version number so Forum members can determine if they need to update to their computer. How often would you upload new versions? Of course, this paragraph is presuming the Forum members are not entering data directly, otherwise there would only be the live version updated continuously.
If you are updating the file yourself and uploading the new version, perhaps weekly, would there be some way for a Forum member to add a field or additional data? And could that information be preserved if he/she downloads an updated version of the file and then bring that extra data into the new version of the file on his/her computer?
My experience is limited to Excel and a little bit of Access, so if this post seems to be in left-field in some aspects, please forgive me.
Let me know if you would like me to email my Excel file to you. I imagine there are a lot of VINs on my list that didn't get added to yours yet.
