Mileage

I'm not sure if this has been talking about in depth on the forum, but I think it is rediculious that the EPA can't figure out what the Solstice gets for MPG. Are there any other cars in the Market that have had there MPG changed as much as the Solstice. I believe that the 06-07 Solstice was 30 MPG for Base and 31 MPG for GXP in 07. I'm pretty sure that the 2008 GXP was 26 MPG. Did you see that the 2009 EPA estimated MPG is 28. I think this is crazy. I know there's a couple of threads about what people get for MPG. I guess what upsets me is the market approach to selling cars. If the Solstice in reality get's 30mpg what many of us say, then Pontiac and GM are being, well you fill in the blank!

From 07 to 08 there was a change to the way the mileage is calculated, which is the reason for the big change from 30/31 down to 26. Every car on the road saw a big drop in mileage that year due to this change in calculating it.

I had heard about that change, but did other cars really reflect as bad as the Solstice and why has it gone back up 2mpg. Do you believe it should be back around 29-31?

EPA estimates are based on a specific drive cycle, and may or may not reflect actual real-world performance.

THe 08 sticker on mine states 26-28. I'm getting around 27 consistently because I like to have fun driving it.

I guess I'm having more fun, I'm only averaging about 22.

But Mitch is having the most fun of all.

Happy Holidays,

Most vehicles showed a significant change in mileage from 07 to 08... although since it is based on the test cycle some changed more than others.

Here is a link that describes the changes. 2008 Fuel Economy Tests

One example is the 2007 GXP with manual tranny. The old system would have had it rated at 25 combined, 22/31 city/highway. The new system would have it at 22 combined, 19/28 c/h.

Not sure why you think it went up, since the 2009 is also rated 22 combined, 19/28 C/H. Maybe it was one of the other drivetrains?
