Hit and Run. No idea who it was, because the moron hit my car (probably while pulling into the spot), and ran like a p***y while I was getting a TB test for work... I'm guessing it was an SUV since it didn't even touch my wheel. I hate SUV's... And drivers who don't know how to maneuver one...
That hurts: I have been fortunate enough (knock on wood) to not have to deal with any crap from asshats like the one that hit your Solstice. Hope the damage is repaired in a timely manner.

At least with our little cars, they can just replace the quarter panel if they need to. Based on how it looks, they should replace that panel, and not try to repair it! I was rear-ended about a year ago, by some idiot in a truck. He got arrested on the spot for two outstanding warrants! The repair shop was able to replace everything in a couple of days. These little cars are a lot tougher then they look.
Sorry to see this, I am so cautious with my little car, so I understand how much it hurts to have something like this happen.
I feel your pain, mine got raped by a trailer hitch in November. It's a bad enough feeling when you're in the car when it happens, but to just come out and find this...
I second the SUV sentiments

I had to replace the whole back end of the body on mine when it rolled backwards out of the parking spot and into the corner of a parking garage.
Edit: I had the parking brake fully on, it was on a level surface and extensive testing at the shop suggested the brake was gripping perfectly fine. I can't imagine someone doing it but it looks like somebody released my brake....
If I remember correctly, the body shop said that the side panels are welded on at 5 or 6 'tabs' and that replacing them is needlessly difficult. Because the robots at the plant can hold the piece perfectly in place and then weld it on, it's cheaper to assemble but very difficult to repeat by hand. Obviously this should be covered by your insurance but make sure the body shop gets all the gaps really perfect and straight before you take your baby back!

There is also a huge amount of bonding agent/adhesive used to mount that panel. They are a real pain to remove, much less replace as you've mentioned.
