i didn't suggest a recall, i was saying that it's probably easier for them to sweep things under the rug than to possibly wind up with a recall.
i had a conversation with a friend about something completely different which i think shows the similar mentality of large corporations.
a friend of mine had his cousin come in from out of town and he happens to be a vice president of some oil company, i think it was texaco or exxon. regardless, he starts talking about how great his company is and how environmentally friendly they are becoming and cites the example of how they are digging up all of the gas station tanks in his region (colombia) and replacing them with some new double walled leak sensing tanks because they are so nice and eco friendly. what he didn't say was that it's cheaper to replace all the tanks in the country than to pay for the lawsuits from all the contaminated groundwater from leaky tanks. if anyone does not see the analogy, i can spell it out more clearly. i'm just kind of tired of typing right now.
Anytime underground tanks are dug up the soil has to be tested. If contaminated, it has to be properly disposed of. $$$$$ Replacing tanks before there is a problem is a good plan.

you people soooo did not get my point. the point is....just because people are smiling at you and saying nice things doesn't mean that there is an ulterior motive. just because they are spending some money to please you and to look good to all the people in the forum doesn't mean they aren't trying to preempt something much larger later on. you can do both things simultaneously, they aren't mutually exclusive.

Ah, or in other words, "just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you"?
I fully understood what you were saying, I simply chose to not agree. I've decided to live in this strange place where I trust people. It is in GM's best corporate interest to build and sell cars that do not harm the owners. When they find the proximate cause of XMM's fire, I have no doubts whatsoever that they will take appropriate steps to make sure that is does not happen again to him or to others. It is in their and our common interest for them to do so. I do not see their motives as ulterior, but as quite transparent. But, as I stated earlier, I live in this pollyanna world where vendors try to produce and sell products that are good for their customers and make the company money.

Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Pinot in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'!!!!!!!!!! Got that from a junk e-mail but it works!!!
I got a call from my contact at GM this evening. Nittany was completed early than we thought so they have put her on a carrier and she is on her way back to my dealer. She will be delivered tomorrow afternoon!!!!!! Since the plant still isn't open we couldn't take a tour so they decided to get her back to me as soon as possible as compared to having her sit for an extra week. When she gets to my dealer she is getting put inside and getting covered. I don't get to pick her up until MONDAY. My GM contact is driving in from Detroit to go over everything that was done to Nittany on Monday which is why I have to wait. He says I will be VERY happy to see her when the cover is removed. He went over a very long list of replacement/upgrades which went into my car. I can tell you that GM has really gone above and beyond to give me back a car that is more than whole. We also talked about the cause of the air bag deployment. I was told the cause of the deployment, no stories, or excuses. It is the same conclusion as my insurance company guessed from their preliminary review. On Monday I'll find out if GM is going to make an announcement on the Forum about this incident or if they want me to recount the information. It will be their call. I'll also post pics of Nittany with info on what was done to her. I can tell you that I'm VERY satisfied with the way GM has kept me in the loop over the past couple of weeks and how open they have been with me on the investigation.
I'll have pics as soon as I can on Monday......after I take my baby for a nice long drive!
