At my dealer the parts counter did not include the additive in the kit. The mechanic went to the counter and requested it...said he would not do the job without it.
I now know which mechanic of the 12 I want working on my car.
MY car has a LSD...and received no additive at all.
Does anyone know if not adding the "additive" will damage the rear diff...even the slightest bit of damage?

The additive would only be required if the differential was drained as part of the procedure.
Was your fluid drained?

I've been trying to get an answer from the service department for a few days now...will post about whether they fully drained the diff or not and post here.

Service rep stated over the phone that the the rear differential is typically always drained to facilitate repairs at their shop. She is checking with the TECH to verify that this is the case.

I did some googling on this today and maybe it doesn't damage the LSD if you aren't getting chatter. Some reading said that it allows the clutches to slip (typically cornering) smoothing out their disengagement and engagement. Hard engagement is what causes the chatter.
So I now don't know if this is true, or if the LSD can get damaged.

I never picked up my work order. I called the cashiers office to see if I can pick it up Monday when I drop the car off for the body shop. She was trying to read it to me over the phone...then transferred me to the Tech. Without me asking specifics, the tech told me what they did...including the additive.
But I will double check on the physical work order form on Monday.

Sorry, I had you confused with bradsol!
Trying to work and post at the same time = confusion!

I've now talked to several techs at the dealer I use. They were under the impression that the gear lube (GM part #89021677) contained the LSD additive because it is synthetic. I told them that just because it is synthetic does not mean it has the additive. Royal Purple synthetic gear lube does contain the additive. However, Mobil 1 gear lube does not. This whole issue seems to be a GM training issue. The vast majority of the techs don't have a clear understanding of the need for LSD differentials to have an additive. They also don't understand that synthetic gear lube does not necessarily contain the LSD additive.
