OBDII code readers

The check engine light on our 07 GXP is on. I have an obdII code reader, but when I hook it up I keep getting an error message, what am I doing wrong?

It's hard to say but you can goto a local Autozone or Advance Auto and they will scan it for free. What OBD-II scanner do you have?

Make sure you have the key in the on/auxiliary position...2 clicks forward from starting position (one position before the car would try to start)

Is your code reader CAN-compliant? Do '07 GXP's even use CAN protocol?

Most definitely.

Is this a good time to mention that I wrote my own scan tool for my '06?

I haven't tried my Actron scan tool on the Solstice, but I'm guessing it won't work because of the CAN bus it has. Good thing we have Interceptor gauges!
