My pontiac dealer told me that I needed to have it replaced even if I already had it replaced in the past. Just went in this morning for the fix, now I have a horrible vibration in the rear end of the car! I'm going back in the morning

The first step in the current procedure is to inspect a Solstice's warranty history to see if there has been any recent replacement of the rear differential unit.

If there has, and the replacement is one of a short list of updated spec differentials, then the recall will not have to be done.

The seal and procedure was revised in December 2007. So most previously repalced pinion seals will need to be done as part of this tecall.

If nothing is clear to the dealership, they may need to redo the recall.

There has been a report of a poorly cast rear pinion flange, one of the parts replaced durng the recall, that may have been out of balance and caused a vibration on a Cadillac CTS-V.

The Cadillac CTS-V is a different animal and does use a different kit than the Solstice. But it may still be something for the dealership to keep in mind.

I'm STILL waiting for my differential carrier part (25858219). Are you able to find out if this part is available in GM's inventory yet?

Good Luck! Hope they can fix it. Just wondering, were you having a problem with it before the recall?

I don't expect my dealer to call me daily telling me that they don't have the part yet,
BUT
it would be nice to get a return call when I call asking if the part has been received.
After several dealings with the assist Svc Dept Mgr who has this really nasty "i could care less" attitude, I decided any subsequent inquiries I make would be to the Parts dept. Dude from said dept tells me, "I'll look into it and call you back.". That was 2 days ago. I know the parts warehouse is not that big.

I just want to know if the part I need has been made available by GM.
ANYONE Know??

My local dealer in Round Rock, TX (Nyle Maxwell Pontiac/GMC) has the kits in stock to do the recall so yes, they've been made available.

I'm not referring to the Pinion Seal Recall kit, but the actual part number in my post above. It seems the only way i can find out if it's in stock is to continually call the dealer, which is getting very old...

They were previously available up until about a week or so ago.

Your dealership must have ordered before the kits went on backorder.

As of yesterday the expected delivery for parts ordered for dealership stock was April 7th. Possibly earlier if ordered specifically for a customer's car.

The lubricant in the quart bottle is still showing as out of stock.

The additive needed for Limited Slip Differentials is available.

The tools need to perform the recall are also backordered until sometime in March. Dealerships should have received the tools as part of their essential tool shipments when the Solstice was intoduced in 2005. Some dealerships may have misplaced them, or broken them, or are looking just to add additional tools to handle the amount of expected recalls.

Based on the revised recall procedures of February 15th........

The first thing a dealership will do, is to check the warranty claim history on the car to see if the differential has been replaced, and if so, see what part number differential was installed.

They will compare that to a list of differential numbers that do not need the seal replacement.

That will determine is the recall is done or not.

So when your dealership checks on your Solstice's mid-September 2006 differential replacement part number, they will find that the recall does need to be done.

Part still lists as "no stock available". Also no longer any dealerships showing it in stock.

Did you confirm that your car doesn't have Limited Slip? CONFIRMED

Even more importantly, what exactly is leaking that can not be fixed without a whole new unit?

Good Stuff Small Dealer..
My shop said.. nope we did it a year ago.. we just need to update the system....guess I will inform him again.

Problem is I have a WEIRD noise in my rear end when I turn corners at low speed.. THE right side is making a grinding like sound.
Took it to dealer and it didn't do it, but he told me this is common on Vette's and Caddy's...

Told me they just flush the pumpkin.... GREAT.. it is full of Royal Purple....

thanks for the info
