Does anyone know how one can go about renting a Solstice? I was looking at renting one for the week or weekend for my girlfriend as she is absoultely in love with them. I can't seem to find one via such companies as Alamo, Hertz, Enterprise, etc.
the only one Ive seen was a mom and pop rental shop in Gatlinburg TN......I doubt you will find one as Momssol stated at the big name rental companies...not much of a calling for a roadster in rental fleets....

You won't find a "Big Box" rental company offering a Solstice. Your best bet is to find a specialty rental company...one that does Lamborghinis and Ferrari's. Search these threads...there was one post about a year ago about a Vegas company that offered the Sol for about $1,200 per day. With greater availability, I'm sure that price has gone down, but don't know what the DC market is like.
Take her to Vegas for the Weekend and Rent-A-Vette has a NA 5 speed for $129 if you rent it 3-6 days, $149 1-2. Nice guys I've rented from them many times.

Yep, saw it myself, sitting on the lot. My brother had to show me the Viper his wife rented for him on his 4oth Bday. First thing I noticed was the Solstice sitting on the lot!

I was on Maui the week before last. All the rental companies seemed to have Miatas for rent. I asked at Alamo when they will have a Solstice for rent. The counter person said I was not the first person to ask and they are feeding back those requests to the local ownership.
I hope it won't be too long before we can rent them on the islands.
here in DC, I had difficulty trying to rent a car with a stick, nevermind a Solstice. Had to go to Rent-A-Wreck to find the stick. Maybe look for one on a mom and pop used car lot, and see what they would rent it you for...that might be your best bet here in DC. I have not heard of anyplace renting them.

Wow, thanks everyone for the influx of replies. It's greatly appreciated, especially considering the number of forums I frequent that are horrid towards "noobies".
I'm going to look into Mom and Pop type rental companies first, then probably some used car lots.

I fear for the company foolish enough to rent a Solstice to Gizmo... Can you say, donuts? Gizmo would be trying to do "stoppies" in a sports car.
Back on topic...
I found no mainstream rentals with a Solstice to rent. I have only found them at big-city exotic rental componaies where you can rent Corvettes, Porsches, BMWs, Lambos, Maseratis, etc. They rent for $150 a day or up.
Miatas are common because Ford owns Mazda, so most Hertz rentals have one available if it is not already spoken for.
GM is trying to reduce fleet sales and the Solstice is still a strong seller so I don't see Avis getting the Solstice for a while. When sales fall off, I am sure Avis would love to snatch up the excess demand if GM is willing to put the Sol into rental fleets. I am sure it would be in very high demand, especially for things like parades and Proms.

...before you think about doing this with yours, read previous threads about the trunk lid getting bent by even lightweight prom/parade/homecoming queens sitting over the waterfall.
You can rent a Solstice at Avis at SFO. I received a brand new Solstice (12 miles on the odometer) this past Thursday & Friday. What a treat - I was down for my usual corporate mid-size Malibu or whatever. So, for $44 a day I got a Solstice instead.
Impressions after putting the first 240 miles on the car:
Great handling
Beautiful styling
Incredible price point - I'm sure that I had a 2008 base car with automatic - about $23.5k, yes?
XM Radio is a nice standard feature
I put the top down without referring to the owner's manual. I was surprised to find that Edmunds.com felt that the top was difficult.
Cup holder & power window switch ergonomics are terrible
HVAC controls & system are usual GM excellent
23+ MPG on a brand new car in mixed driving was very good
It's not excusable in 2008 that GM cannot offer a 4 cylinder engine as smooth as Honda or VW. Take a deep breath, before anyone gets defensive, it's not lost on me what a fun car the Solstice is for the money. But, the 4 banger/auto combination does not fulfill the promise of a sports car. I suspect that the manual would make the base engine more enjoyable
