Over the last couple of years I've began noticing white letter tires being used on show cars. I wasn't sure if this was some type of throwback homage or possible a short term fad. However, there was even more cars w/white letter tires at this years 2016 SEMA event, so much so that I think its turned from a fad into a geniune trend. So it may only be a matter of time before car manufactures begin offering white letter tires on their performance cars. Hello 70s!
And while I don't care for the current black wheel/tire look, at least w/white letters you can see that there is a tire in the wheel well from 50 feet away.
And Rob yes I know Punisher has had letters on your car for several years, you trendsetter.
I like them very much on my white F150. Wouldn't care for them on the black Solstice. In my opinion it's very vehicle and color specific as to whether they appeal or not.
I remember when that was the look everyone wanted (me too!). But it did take work to keep them looking good.
I've seen a few new cars (Camaros/Mustangs) running around with raised white letters and it looks good. Just not sure it would look good on the Solstice.
At the SEMA show this year one of the new trends was tires with the manufactures name spelled out in different colors and sizes also lettering that spelled out a style or theme ie. Punisher as usual Rob is ahead of the game I've gone on Tirestickers web site and they have some pretty interesting combinations and they are not all that expensive .I've been considering Dunlop scrips in red to match my accents just another thing to consider as the car is stored and the snow is falling
I can't remember if this was the stuff I bought back in the 70s/80s, it used to come in a small plastic bottle w/a spray pump. I seem to remember it would look great for a few days, but didn't stay that way?
Yep, that's the stuff. I tried various other cleaners and thought I'd go "old school" and try the bleche-wite and it worked great.
As for "lasting" - well tire dressing can help extend how long they stay clean. In fact, I kind of think you should use a dressing of some sort as the bleche-wite appears to be a bit aggressive. If nothing else, rinse VERY well after using.
I agree they look good on some 60's thru 80's cars as they look period correct to me, and I have had quite a few sets on older cars, including my current 69 Firebird. But I do not car for the look on sports cars or many modern cars. Here is a link to a Solstice currently F/S with a set.
There is a place in Louisiana that will make white letters, or any color I think, for your tires. I actually had a set made for the original tires. They fit into the lettering outlines of the tires and stayed on. But got rid of the tires and never ordered another set. Can't remember the name of the company.
Used to have big white for tires on my old road king classic scoot, man what a job it was keeping them clean & the back was even worse. Stronger body back then .
