Can you post a picture? I have a slight ripple going on and it isn't from my butt in the seat. Someone big from the dealer might have played around for the first 350 or a bit less miles on it and now I'm worried I'm going to have this problem. My 2005 Grand Prix didn't ripple at all and it had 37,000 miles on it. I would hate having something happen to the leather seats. I just want to know what is bad and what is normal. Thanks! Saggy to some can be ripply to others, so I have to ask.

I am trying to keep this car pristine so it will last me this big chunck of money I feel I'm spending for no trunk or back seats for traveling or other people for a long, long time. It grows on me more each day, but I've never had anything lke this, though I always did a neck break when I caught a glimpse of one. (Still trying to justify my selfishness to have one at all) I just want to be aware of what to look for as a problem because at this stage, I have gone 65mph once and not topped 40 beyond that. I park at the far end of all stores, walking forever to the inside. I watch every car coming my way and drive like an old cautious lady, (obeys all traffic laws) probably, but I can't bear to see this car wrecked if I lived at all. Here you have to watch everyone else, because 5-10 do not care or watch for you, let alone have insurance.

Maybe it is the new car neurosis, but I shimmy it everytime I come home to get any spots off. This will probably last, because I think it would look bad dirty. It isn't like a 4-wheeler or something.

Anyway, if you have a pic of your seat so I know what to look for it would be much appreciated. Dealer told me (after I read your problem asnd asked) that some rippling has to occur oand stretch or you get cracks. I think sweat and sun would do it worse than anything, but am open for all opinions. Thanks! If there are bad seat pics already on here, I just haven't found them. If you've fixed it aready, please anyone with this saggy seat problem jump in.

Ok,

I have the seat repair done and firstly WOW, what a diference. It made the long drive home really enjoyable. I do not know if 2008 solstice have the same problem as GM has changed the seat several times. I know this because there were diferences in a couple of the seats from different times of manufacture. Basically all that we saw had the same problem.

Evidence is a significant ripple in the center of the seat but the really problem is an increasingly sinking feeling each time you seat in the seat and seemingly getting lower and lower as time passes by. I origninally thought I was getting shorter (Remember I am so short that on my drivers license picture you can see my feet), but alas the seat was sinking. After taking the seat apart, not really hard if you follow JPM pictures, you can see the problem. The foam is of less than optimum density (This is just my opinion when compared to the foam used to repair the seat otherwords if there is a GM lawyer please go away you have done enough damage). The more important problem is they just carved out the middle of this not very dense foam to make a spot for a rear end. This left the foam even more compressable. The fix was to layer succesively three layers of some white kind of foam plus one of some black foam over the depression carved in the seat. Each layer had to be glued done with 3m spray adhessive and the edges skived smooth (so there was no edge) This was done by sanding (looked like lots of fake snow). The whole thing was then covered with the soft black foam and the seat was put back together.

After the fix, the wrinkles were better but not gone however the sinking feeling was gone forever. The seat was very comfortable and I would not hesitate to have this done.

By the way, Waterlilly, the urge to wash you car everyday and not put miles on it and park it far away is definately normal. We were all there. But driving is so much fun eventually you will just say "Oh Well" and crank on the miles.

have fun

Chuck

Chuckdoc was the seat stand in for the "seat surgery" Joe performed..............Chuck should we call this the "Brazilian Solstice butt lift"? Joe from JPM may need malpractice insurance.

Glad to hear you got home fine.

Yes, Joe is quite a plastic surgeon. He used my car seat as a demo on how to do. Everyone who participated found it both fun and easy to do.

Well, I'll wait and see if I get shorter. Being 5'4" the car is really my perfect size now. Hopefully the seat won't sag like you've had a problem with.

It was too short of notice to go to KY, but it sounded like fun. Maybe one will happen even closer. I put some miles on today, had to put the top up for the first time because it rained, looked for the leaks people mentioned and so far so good. It was a real gully-washer too. I will have to wash it and shimmy it tomorrow. I better get some wax while I'm at it.

I'm glad you fixed your problem and all is comfortable. I had a feeling it was a foam thing.

I've got a saggy seat in my Sol but I just thought it was just me and the result of being 71 years old. As for the hard part on the left side of the seat, I found out years ago that taking my wallet out of my hip pocket went a long way toward my comfort on a longer drive. Truthfully, although my driver's seat does sag and the leather is kind of wavy I still think it is one of the most comfortable places I've found to spend 6-8 hours outside of my La-Z-Boy.

The driver's seat in my opinion has to be well made, well secured to the car and ultimately comfortable for long durations.

The Solstice is, after all, billed as a performance car by GM. People who drive their Solstices daily for their nine-to-five jobs will most likely not replace their driver's seats with Recaro or Sparco racing buckets. A seat that is not comfortable will ultimately distract the driver, especially when the driver decides to "let'er rip" on the rare occasions.

My seat did drive me up the wall, until I took it back to the dealership. There is this "bump" that straddles (across) all three lanes in the freeway on my way to work daily.

When the Solstice runs over this bump at freeway speeds, the loose bracket will cause the seat back to shift up such that my head actually brushes against the convertible top lining. Then the seat settles back down, and my butt compresses the (crappy) foam in driver's seat from the downforce. Sometimes, I swear that I could actually feel the springs under the driver's seat.

This is VERY uncomfortable during my daily drives to work. It is distracting and many a times I have to grip the steering wheel to stay steady (which is not a good thing to do at freeway speeds). I call it the morning "Jolt".

The dealership fixed the foam (finally did, after a second try). But the seat bracket is still loose. My seat still throws me up when running over the bump on the freeway.

In a car that is billed and sold as a performance vehicle, this is not acceptable. I don't mind the stretching "leather" but the build quality of the seats seriously leaves much to be desired for safety reasons alone.
