Lately many of my friends have been criticizing me for buying an American car over a Japanese car, but they can never appreciate the Solstice until they have driven it.
Do any of you guys get criticized for purchasing an American?
The American in me says:
Just let them know they are out of touch, uninformed and you would appreciate if they would backup their statements with a few facts. The quality of American cars is now just as good and better in most circumstances. The Ford Fusion is a perfect example - best in class quality.
The International Relations Student in me says:
Just about every major auto company is a multination corporation, so there really is no "American Car".

I wholeheartedly agree!

I think I'm in love...
Mods: lose the chicklets, VentureShield, Dual horns, AfterShock spoiler, Weathershield cover, Lil Chromies and red calipers with black Solstice stickers!
Did you explain to him that unless he bought the WRX (the ugliest car on the road), anything Japanese would require extreme mods to give the experience of the Solstice, and it would sound like a ricey fart can at that...and that he's welcome to leave this country permanently if he likes, thanks to the relative freedom we enjoy here in America.

I started to buy an American, but there is a lot of red tape and legal issues. I settled for one from a third world country instead, and saved a bundle!
The obvious benefits of the Solstice aside, these "freinds" should be questioned as to why they support industry in other countries instead of their own. We haven't had a foreign car in the family since I sold my last Porsche in the early 90's. Not a minute of regret.
Show some patriotic spirit-buy American first, keep America strong!
hahahaaaaa !! Yes... I had a 350Z, and now when friends get in the Sol, they ask why I have "a bucket of bolts" rattling in the trunk, with all the squeaks, rattles, clunks, and the occasional whining rear end, but it's all in the character of the car... sooo it's better to ditch the girfriend, and the other complainers , then ditch the Sol... Next bus leaving in 5 minutes.. all aborad

There was a time when you were criticized for buying foreign cars,
This is part of the problem as to why this country is going broke including 700 billion for oil imports.
Granted US auto manufacturers quality has declined and cost has increased there in a fight for there existence, soooooo tell them if they want foreign move there, cut your income in half and drive foreign .

I've never bought anything but American brands (almost exclusively GM) and have been very happy with all my purchases (even in the '80s when the quality was supposed to be crap). If you care for your car properly you can make even a less than perfect car last a long time. My 1999 Olds Intrigue is approaching 170K miles. I just drove it on vacation covering over 800 miles (high speeds, very hot conditions, and a good bit of stop and go traffic) and it performed flawlessly. My 2006 Solstice has only had one issue of any note and that was the catalytic converter failing. It was replaced under warranty in a day with no problems since. I wouldn't buy a Japanese car for anything because 90% of them are unbelievably boring.

Me too I bought a jackass.
