Lot 104, the DPT Solstice, just sold for 22,000 not including the 10% buyer's premium. The car sure looked great, but the announcer's knew next to nothing about the vehicle. Very disappointing SPEED...

1989 Geo Metro Zonker
Estimate: $5,000-$10,000
A personal project for GM Design Vice-President Chuck Jordan, featuring lots of hot little one-of-a-kind styling and extras. The Geo Metro, built by Suzuki for Chevy and sold under the Geo sub-brand, was unofficially the official car of single, underpaid junior high school teachers and poor college kids. This one-off should give them something to talk about at the book club meeting or the Dungeons & Dragons convention.
And affordable.
Zonker went early (Lot 9.1) for $3,000 (plus the 10% Buyer's premium), well below estimate.

I found out from a friend that the cars offered up by GM are sold under Bill of Sale only and they cannot be titled. So even if you get one of the rare vehicles, you can never drive it on a public street. If this is true then that stinks.
P.S. Right now on speed is the Red Bull drift comp and Rhys is layin the smackdown with the Red Bull Solstice. Very cool getting to see it in action...and on a wet track, none the less.

this may not be true for all 250 cars...there are one ofs, movie cars and specific sema cars Im sure that cant be titled for the street...Im betting those classic production models that are duplicates can be titled.....the reason it has made news is because of the large number GM has brought to the action....they normally bring 25-50 to the auction annually..
here is an article I found from the Local AZ paper:
Don't think that GM is parting with the family jewels to pay the mortgage. Though insiders can't recall such a big chunk of the collection being sold at once, 25% of the total, most of the vehicles are special show cars and one-offs that GM snapped together for the Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Assn. (SEMA) shows over the years, as well as some classic production cars that were duplicates of models GM still has.
Believe Im correct in saying the top eight sellers so far at B-J have all come from the GM Collection

Yeah, I can understand the concepts and specialty cars because some, if not all, don't have a VIN.
This is what I was told:
Quote:
All of these cars are being sold "on bill of sale only" this means NO TITLE - this means that you will never be able to get a title for the car, never register it, never buy insurance on it, so it is basically going to have to sit in your garage and you can look at it for the rest of its life because you will never be able to drive it on a public street. This is being done apparently because of the potential of someone suing gm over selling a car that does not have a warranty, and because some are experimental, they cant drive into the dealer to get service work. Honestly, Im suprized that GM didnt just take them out back and drive a caterpillar over them and destroy them like they usually do after they are done with them.

Some cars can be driven, it gets talked about when they start the bidding on them. I know the ZR1 "Snake Skinner" can be titled legally, was John Heinricy's personal car. The Woodward GTO can also be titled, it's just a customized GTO.

My recollection of Tuesday night, was that it was mentioned more than once that a salvage title would be provided.
If this was the case, it would work for GM on a couple levels. One, they could still pass ownership to the buyer. Two, the issuance of a salvage title would cause any GM warranty to be voided. Third, in many states, a buyer can have a car issued a salvage title inspected by the state motor vehicle department and perhaps (depending on state rules and the car) have a non-salvage title issued, this puts the state in the place of saying the car is ok.
