I've owned my 2008 SOL for just a year now and I am still amazed at the reaction by folks who come up to me in parking lots and want to know what it is. Some of them are youngsters who may have been too young to remember when the car was in showrooms. Others are of all ages and I would have thought enough SOLs and SKYs are on the road that they would know what they are or, at least not be surprised at seeing one. They honestly don't know what it is and don't recognize the Pontiac emblem.
Many, many times I have gone through the story of how Bob Lutz spearheaded the idea, how Franz Von Holtzhousen drew it up and how the feds shut the division down in the early part of 2009 and find that most people are completely unaware of all that took place within GM after the federal take over.
The car still has very contemporary and classic looks and I am convinced that using the same body style, underpinned by a more modern chassis and the latest evolution of the same basic engine design, the car could be a winner if re-introduced today. If priced in the $30-35,000 range I would be a buyer.
