Tempted but not sold..

So, I was looking at buying my old solstice back, I have the purchase agreement sitting in a folder next to me actually at the moment. The price is decent, and payments are easy, and they got me in at no down payment, but I decided to sleep on it.. the car, isn't exactly as I left it.

This is the "skystice" if you guys remember correctly.

I got to the lot yesterday, and since I had given them a heads up, the car was on, doors open, police lights on.. ready for me to just oo and ahh at it. But something was drastically wrong that's really turned me off from buying it back.

I've always been very "anal" for lack of words when it comes to car care on it, as I'm sure most of you are. I can't stand my cars/projects being dirty, and the quality of the work I put in them is outstanding. BUT..The whole car will need to be redone, the front bumper is cracked up, its even falling off on the passenger side, all the grills are missing, and paints chipping up around the bottom of the headlights. The passenger side fender would fall completely off if it wasn't for the two bolts holding it in under he hood, so the fenders busted along the bottom. Where the hood is extended to meet the solstice door there is a 1/2 inch chip out of the body work, the grills on the hood are falling off. The door panels are barely held on, in fact he drivers door handle didnt even work when I got there, I took of the door panel in front of the sale guy and clipped the cable back on the lever. The rear bumpers been hit/or backed into something as the paint where the taillight goes is all spidercracked, the whole bumper is loose. The pieces under the dash/lever to open hood is all ripped down as if someone tried to break into it and hot wire it. You can imagine how sick I am at this point, NOT TO MENTION how filllthy the car is, my finger didn't push all the dirt off the hood. I took it for a drive, and something is nothing like I remember, the engine feels boggy, and i'm not sure if that's a word.. but thats the only way to describe it. I popped the hood when we got back to the dealer, and theres no air filter on the intake, and something really smells like coolant burning. Drivers seat belt is dangling behind the seat, and the car smells like cigarettes. My middle console where I had made a fiberglassed ipod dock is all cracked up, and I can't even list how many little things irritated me

As much as I want to buy it back, and miss the car.. the way it's sitting I just get the feeling I'm going to spend more time redoing the entire car and fixing all these problems than its even worth. I had a few years into getting that car perfect.. I don't know where it went after me, but I was tossing in my sleep last night to think that something built so well could be run to the ground in 6 months time. for 9990 its a steal of a solstice, but just not worth the work it will take to make it a drivable and enjoyable car.

So I'm thinking I won't be getting back into a sol anytime soon, unless they want to make me a crazy deal on monday. Their going to have a terrible time selling that car, I just don't want to be a fool and bury myself with problems.. I'll stick to the prowler or buy a lexus SC if anything i guess.. but I'll keep you guys posted.

Im sure a kid in high school would have a grand time "souping" it up

from the photos I've seen of that car.............it looks sick while it was in your hands!!!

I can't believe that after 6 quick months........its a wreck!

Unless they sell it to you for $5k......don't go for it. I know you miss your car.....but the money/time/sweat that you'll dump on it will be too much....

Im sorry about your ex-car......

ive never seen your sky before, looks really good!!

thanks bro!

I'm still trying to upgrade the car......to be show car eligible....just like your ex-car!

I've been focussing on the engine for the past year, now I'll focus on making her pretty

i really felt bad about your ex-car. It's definitely a one-of-a-kind machine. In car shows, you get top points by executing what you did! SKYSTICE!!!

a week before HIN in Boston (summer 2009)......my car bottomed-out, big time!

That's why I missed the two HINs (boston and scranton), that I was planning to attend

I missed half of the summer and those big car shows... due to the accident.

I'm happy tho, that accident made me to be able to upgrade to a bigger turbo and other aftermarket parts! thanks to GEICO!!! lol She became a lot better and faster after the accident

Lipstick will be ready for the big shows this upcoming year

lol accidents built my old eclipse! i got to say THATS custom paint, the whole car needs to be repainted lol.. ive been looking at an SC400, I know the lexus class will be a bitch compared to GM, but theyre great cars, it has a V8, but the supra motor is really big with those cars, so it might be a luxurious drift car when i get done.. the solstice is looking like it would be below ground zero with starting over, so i might as well build something new. I spend alot of time making it pretty, i was going to make it fast if i bought it back, oh well right?

What you do differently if you had to do it again? What would it cost to get your old ride up to your standard because you got rid of it because of $ before(?).

Sickening. I'd be torn, but probably let it go. If you're going to put in the all that effort, you may as well create something new.

The car was at the point where it was actually finished with bodywork and paint and wheels, the interior was almost done, had wrapped the whole thingin suede put bride seats in, last thing i wanted was a roll cage, then it was just going to be motor.. in the time it took and money it took to get the entire outside done, I just don't think I'm willing to redo all of that work, and fix alot too..some of its the money to redo the outside, most of it is just the effort and interest in going through the steps all over again to do the exact, same, thing. The prowler is costing significantly more in payments, so it would be a slow moving project, which is why a cheaper car, ie the solstice, sc400.. would be less on the wallet (in payments, insurance, and GAS) which would make a project car come a long way much faster. The main reason is gas over everything, this car is so bad.. and if your used to the solstice, your used to getting relatively decent gas milage, I get 150 miles to a tank, and i only do highway miles.. honestly if I did the math the cost of my gas monthly is probably out weighing my current payment. Another thing aching me about the dealership with the solstice, they only want to give me 18k for the trade, average trade in on the prowler is 20-22.. if they honestly were to make it work where I could walk away using the equity in the prowler to cover the solstice entirely (13.5 payoff) I would probably do it. but their just not giving it any leeway on the price or trade.

Just get a used GXP. invest 600 dollars for a tune and change the stock tires. The adrenaline dumps you will experience from the acceleration will make you forget about anything else.

Sorry, i guess i assumed that he owned a stock solstice. i believe he mentioned that he had not done engine work. Considering a gxp with a 600 dollar tune can run to 60 in about 4.8 seconds and a base sol does that in about 7.7-8 seconds, depending on the elevation. The difference in those number is neck snapping. Bt yes, if he is a car show guy then its completely different issue. Btw, nice car.

yeah the motor was next, it has the RPi dual exhaust, AEM intake, and a cat-delete.. a tuned gxp would definetly put the fun factor in the drive, its the rest of it i wont do over LOL.. this lexus sc400 im looking at, the first thing i would do is the engine this time, full right hand drive front clips come with the straight six twin turbo that would be fun to play with, if im gonna build a new project, im just not going to do the same thing..

unless..

i found a coupe that was at a great price.. how great would a skystice coupe look haha maybe in a few years when they come down a little bit
