There seem to be a few recent posts from people with tops that are developing tears or holes that may be getting top replacements in the near future. Please make sure you're dealing with a reputable dealer and if they don't do the top replacement themselves (most don't, I think) be sure they send it to a top notch upholstery shop.
Last year I read the threads about the missing plastic slider tabs and how it was tearing through roofs. I checked mine and sure enough it was missing the tabs and had aleady torn through the bottom layer of canvas. In October I took the car to my local dealership for an oil change I pointed this out (among several other small issues) and after seeing that a brand new vehicle had tabs and mine didn't, immediately offered to replace the top. They ordered the canvas "cover" and the two side rails with the slider tabs, but they were all backordered. The cover came in first but they couldn't get the weatherstrip rails. After waiting almost six months I finally called Pontiac Customer Service to complain and magically the parts finally showed up last week.
I took the car in on Monday for the replacement. They said they would send it out to an upholstery shop and it would be done Thursday. Sure enough, I get the call on Thursday and went down to pick it up. On the way home I stopped to inspect the top and was shocked to find that they had done a horrible job on the replacement.
None of the new weatherstrip was properly seated.
The front of the side weatherstrips do not mate properly with the front windshield strips.
The b-pillar on the passenger side no longer sits properly in it's socket, it sticks out.
The hook on the bottom of the same b-pillar is chewed up, like someone took a pliers to it.
The passenger side buttress pin no longer lines up with the hole in the trunk lid, it is off center.
The driver's side weatherstrip at the rear edge of the window glass deforms when the door is shut or the window is rolled up/down.
*EDIT* Also just found that the sliders just aft of the side windows under the "wings" where the buttress cables attach were not installed in their channels, they're just flapping around.
Needless to say I took it right back to the dealership and after the service advisor and service manager looked at it they asked me to leave the car and they would call me the next morning, yesterday. No calls all day, I left two messages with no response. I called the advisor again this morning and actually got him on the phone, and was told that they looked at the car yesterday morning and after sitting all night the weatherstrip had somehow "settled" and everything lined up perfectly. He also said they guy that installed the top came to look at it and claimed he didn't even touch the chewed up b-pillar hook. Uh Huh.

Maybe the convertible top elves appeared in the middle of the night, got out their magic hammers and fixed it?
So I go to pick it up today and it's exactly the same as I left it. I showed the advisor and he advised that I bring it back again Monday when the manager is there. Basically it sat there for almost two days and nobody even touched it.
I did notice that the top and weatherstrips are considerably different than the original, obviously a newer (hopefully better) design, but maybe they are incompatible with my car?
Sorry for the long rant guys, but I needed to vent.

Where should I go from here? What should I ask the manager to do? I don't want them to send it back to the same shop. Guess I'll find out on Monday...
