Sorry to say that I traded my Sly in for a new Boxster. Since the Solstice is in demand, I got more than what I paid for it.
The Solstice has some major issues and personally I think it is lacking in design, function and quality materials. I drove it daily for more than a month and it was falling apart almost daily. Between the clunk, the broken door handle, water in the trunk, leaking differential, plastic this and plastic that along with the poor shifting ratios, I was very disappointed.
I know everyone out there will say the same old rhetoric about the car costing only 25,000 but expecting the car to function without problems has nothing to do with price. American cars have once again proven to me that they still cannot get it right.
I expect to see alot of Solstices on the trading block or in lots as people try to unload them....mark my words, this will start happening within the next year.
I have really enjoyed the forum and everyone that has helped me out with questions that I have had. The car is awesome when it comes to lines, curves and styling but that is where it ends.
Ciao

Sorry to see you go.

As a first year production run, I'm quite happy with my Sol. I only drive it during the nice days and weekends...only have 2,000 miles (#1150).

It is also good to hear that you got more than you paid for it on trade! That makes me feel good about my investment.

No one will deny problems, but its how we choose to look at them. I love my car! with the problems and without. So far, no problems. Just no luggage space!

But, Ill pack light until my Buick Velite Convertible arrives! Then the Sol is history!

Sorry to hear it, but if you disliked your car, then it's a wise move to dump it.

Not all cars are built equally, and frankly I can't say I have ANY complaints about the quality of build, workmanship, or durability.

I'll remove your info from the WISols list & site.

Some of the problems are more likely to be attributed to the car being an early version of a first year model that was literrally rushed to production.

Sorry you ended up displeased. However, I don't think it was lacking for design. It is beautiful. I would agree that there could be better execution, and they have slowly been improving their execution on it. Still, they have a little way to go.

The early Boxsters were imfamous for having problems too. Since they have been out for years, those issues have mostly been worked out. However, the first year or two they were a mess. I specifically remember all kinds of problems with the top operation for example.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the Boxster! It is a wonderful sports car!!

Okaaaay... Let's see, falling apart daily, that's a little hard to swallow. I've had no problems with mine, sure it's not the most polished car on the market but to say it is lacking in design is just flat out ridiculous. The quality problems you mention are completely absent on my car.

You can never go wrong with a Boxster. No doubt it is far more refined than the Pontiac.

I remember so many complaints about delays with the cars, but I feel very strongly it is better to insure quality will be acceptable than to rush a car into production and risk losing customers like you. It sounds like GM had one chance to regain your interest in their cars and at least with your car, they blew it. You are not likely to go looking for a GM in the future. I don't think they can afford that luxury.

Just curious, was your Solstice a 1st 1000 car? What was your car's VIN#.

Wow, that's sour grapes if I ever heard it!!

Several of your statements should have involved at least a little rational thinking before making them.

I've been driving my Solstice for over four months and have had absolutely NO problems of any kind. I can't say the same thing about some Jap or even German cars that I have owned.

His problems are not at all hard for me to swallow. It could be due to having a much earlier car than yours. Also, I want a brand new car to be bullet-proof. It would not take a heck of a lot of problems for me to feel like that car was "falling apart daily". Just a few problems in the 1st 6 months of ownership would make me feel that way.

That is why I refuse to buy a 1st year car and didn't want a 1st thousand car at any price. I want a car from further in the development cycle - ideally a 3rd year car. Also why I am waffling on the GXP. I'm no doubt getting one, but not in a particular hurry for a car with an all-new powerplant. I am in no hurry to get one that might have some problems. I'd rather wait a year for the more refined version.

I agree totally!! Sounds like he was giving the Solstice the same "objective" try that MOtor Trend and the other slanted car mags gave it. Get real falling apart apart daily? - that's what warrenty is for. I am continually amazed at how I can own a particular vehicle never have problems with it and another can have the same vehicle and continually have "problems" real or imagined. I guess its a matter of how the vehicle is treated. Have fun with your Boxester - I'm sure it will not give you any problems since undoubtly it has enough status. And I feel sure the price tag was big enough also.

Sgt Pepper,

It sounds like you had some bad luck with your car. Maybe it was built on a Monday morning.

If I found it right, your car is Vin #3851.

danlbrau has Vin #3853 (2 after you) and RWSimmons has VIN #3919, not much later. RADRIV had VIN #1150 and doesn't seem to have a car as bad. So either you had bad luck or maybe you are just use to very high quality autos with a high level of refinement, while maybe the others are not.

For example, I drive a Chevy Silverado, so I am not used to a car with say a Lexus quality interior, therefore a cheaper interior is not a showstopper for me.

Too bad you got a Solstice with problems. Enjoy your new Boxster. It is a great car and if you can painlessly afford one, it is a great choice.
