On the way back from the 2009 NASSM, I picked up Old Route 66 in Springfield, Illinois. I was planning to drive it to Chicago but I specifically wanted to stop in Pontiac, IL because of that wonderful name and the fabulous mural that is painted on the back wall of the Route 66 museum.
As I traveled through the little towns, I uploaded my pictures to facebook. Ihawk95 texted me when I got lost in Bloomington and said she'd meet me in Pontiac. Thank God for Garmins.
I pulled into Pontiac to see a group of diehard artists up on a scaffold in the 90+ degree heat, painting a mural on a brick wall. It was awesome!
As I rounded a corner there was another group painting a wall!
And yet another! I stopped the car, took a couple pics and started asking questions. Of course I had to mention my Pontiac Solstice and my Route 66 trips.
They said that it was their 2009 Pontiac Summer Bash 4 day weekend which included the WallDogs Mural competition, Heritage Days, Hang Loose Cruise Night and some other really cool events. I was rambling on about how the town support was absolutely fantastic, when the ex-mayor put his video camera on me and asked if he could interview me for his documentary.
I really don't know how I got through it, I was ridiculously lit by the atmosphere, but I am part of the official 2009 Pontiac Summer Bash documentary and if anyone wants to see what it's about for future years/trip/travel, here's a link to their website:

ihawk caught up to us and we had a fun time with the locals in the back of the museum, taking pictures and trying to get her car turned around.

Diana, thanks for kickin' it with us on old 66!
