I'm kind of sad, I will definitely miss this car. I think I was one of the first people on here. I special ordered my Solstice after seeing it on the Apprentice, and picked it up in December of 2005. I don't know what my join date is on here, but it's probably around that time too.
I'm trading my Solstice in on a Ford Explorer for a couple of reasons. The real honest reason is because I have a 6 month old now, and with the repairs / upgrades I am doing with my home, I really need a full sized SUV, at least for the next several years.
The other reason I'm getting rid of it is because I'm really, REALLY upset with the direction that General Motors has taken.
My first car was a 1987 Pontiac Fiero SE / V6. I STILL have that car. I've owned 12 other GM vehicles since 1996, two of them have been new... my 1997 Grand Am SE Sedan (left over demo from the previous year) and my 06 Solstice. Never in a million years did I ever think that I would see the US government nationalizing companies... and I certainly never thought I would see General Motors get "purchased" by the US Government. Look, it's one thing to give them a loan, but it's an entirely different thing for the US government to PURCHASE them (debt to equity swap).
I simply cannot believe how bad this has gotten, I'm sorry if some of you are angry by my political rant here, but you'll simply need to get over it becuase as long as you keep your head in the sand, it's just going to get worse. This isn't about Republicans VS Democrats or vice versa, this is about Socialism VS Democracy.
In any event, I'm getting rid of my Solstice, and I've promised myself that I will NEVER, EVER buy another new GM vehicle so long as I live, or at least while GM is owned in ANY part by the US government.
I sold my wife's Beetle and we bought a "demo" 2008 Jeep Patriot several months ago (before I knew that 10% of Chrysler would be owned by the government). But, I'm stuck.
I've decided that my next car purchase, I'm going to give Ford my money...
I'll still hang around from time to time... but I won't own a Solstice. I took all the performance parts off and sold them on eBay. It was a great car... maybe I'll buy a used one 10-15 years from now when I can get a used hardtop for 5-6 grand...

So if General Motors had swapped $40 Billion Dollars of crushing debt that they could not repay to the private sector with $40 Billion Dollars of crushing debt that they could not repay to the government, they would have been able to statisfy your recent dislike of automobile manufacturers with government ownership stakes but not ones that support it, and kept you as an owner?

Wow you too! I keep seeing alot of us old timers on here getting rid of the solstice for something new now. I can name off a few already. I too sold the solstice for a F-150, basically I wanted more room after three years with the sol as my only car. Also I wanted 4x4 for the snow. Stick around, you are one of the best and I gained valuable info from you over the years as well. Remember those header problems? Now I see so many new people on here I don't even know! I pop in from time to time now as well.

See ... there's your problem. The Solstice does not make a good "only" car .
82-T/A, sorry to here you're getting rid of your Solstice. I can understand your love for the Fiero, had 4 of them myself in various forms .

And once again this is not a democracy and I wish people would get it thru their heads. This is a republic. If you do not know the difference I feel sorry for you.
First step in getting this country back on track is to have a f*cking clue what kind of government we have. Honestly makes you and your long winded post look terribly stupid.

Get a grip...
Democracy is often used as merely meaning free elections by the people.
Of course based on a constitution..we are in reality a republic.
So..OK then...Socialism VS Republic...
May make you look a little terribly tedious...
...but we do appreciate the lecture.

umm socialism and democracy are not mutually exclusive. Socialism is an economic theory. It's not the opposite of a Democracy which is a form of government. Maybe you should have hit wikipedia before you traded in your car.
Also are you saying that if our government would have let GM completely go out of business or be bought by the chinese, india, russians etc then you would have kept your solstice? I'm not following the logic there or what kind of statement you're making about patriotism.
Omg! Seriously people get grip. Take it to the politics section this thread is saying to all of us whom have around here longer than some you newbies that he sold the car for his reasons. One for his daughter. I sold mine. So did many others...solscuba comes to mind. Let him have his thread and all you newbies if you cant handle it stay out of it we are a tight group of people with more history than you know. Now back to the OP.

Come on!
The guy is just stating his dissatisfaction with what he sees as an attempt at "state control"...rather than "we the people". Not such an outrageous comparison at all. Before that...he decided to get a more practical vehicle to transport his family. Now there are those slamming him and trying to dissect the exact meaning of words...even resorting to online encyclopedias..jeesh! Give the guy a break. I might not agree totally with his conclusions..but I do understand his point.
