I seriously suspect they never indended to make this a long-term car. When did you see advertisements for one? Rarely. In any event, you can't blame someone for being upset with the company that let such a gem go away.
1. Lack of interior storage: I made an 11,000 mile 23-day trip, what's the problem?
2. Horrendous cup holders: this car is for driving, not slurping.
3. Idiotic power window switch placement: HUH? What's the problem?
4. Several others? You haven't named one yet!!!!
They can have the keys to my Pontiac Solstice when they pry them from my cold, dead fingers!

Some people have good taste in automobiles! Let's see some photos of that Cutlass.

Well, he seems to own two Solsti, and he has said a "few" good things about them. But yeah, mostly negative. So why did he buy the second one? Slow learner?

Most folks don't own a car long-term. The Solstice is a niche car and even those that love it have life to deal with
Many people find a sporty car is an impulse buy, and have to get another car. Oh well, the world is still spinning
Many times I have thought about how much fun I'd be having if I took the 10K downpayment I made on my GXP, sold my '70, and bought a restored 1940s military MB jeep

Its a perception problem, I think. I thought about living with the Solstice for one year before I bought one, and I thought about the problems I might have. I had no trouble with mis-perception when I bought
I do think the window switches should have been next to the shifter, though
But for you and me, what do we want from the Solstice? That's right, a wind-in-the-hair sportscar with one purpose: driving pleasure. Cupholders need not apply. Who the F needs that? I'll complain about the gas and brake being too close together because that's a driving issue, but cupholders?
Frankly, I would hate the Solstice if it were all things for all people. I am actually unhappy that is HAS cupholders at all. I'm fairly certain I can chart the demise of car culture in the USA with info on the proliferation of automotive cupholders!
Some like to get liquid on a trip, that is why they make cup holders. Ours are flimsy and break.
Back in the day, this was what the crotch was for- cradling a beer. Now that drinking and driving isn't okey-dokey, you don't want a beer there as you drive. But the crotch is still there True, not as handy as a cup-holder. But infinitely more durable than the ones we have. Cupholder, Schmupholder in my opinion but I realize some folks want refreshment. I've been known to actually stop the car, get out and walk into a convenience store, buy gatorade, and then drink it, throw away the bottle, and hop back in the car. Works for me

Actually, the only thing that makes sense from a body mechanics standpoint is to stop trying to use the left hand to do that, and simply use your right; try it, it works pretty well. It's just counter-intuitive. One of the first things I plan to do when my car is 100% mine is to re-locate those window switches, and use the driver's side switches for something else like the cabin lights I'd like to put into the inside windshield trim and footwells
Yeah, I use the crotch for bottle holding while flying, since my plane does not have cupholders. A water bottle fits perfectly there. But a Circle K cup of Coke? No way! If they are going to make a cup holder, make one that works! My dealer replaced 3 on my 3rd Solstice, and stated that every Solstice they sold has had to have them replaced. Don't get me started on my current Solstice. If it is not part of the drive train, it has broken. The other 2 were gems.
Where would you put the switches if you moved them?
Where would you put the switches if you moved them?
Somewhere near the shifter, the exact spot will depend on access and ease of installation, but the area just aft of the shifter would be good for both driver and passenger.
FYI..My dealer had to replace the entire inside door panel on the drivers side because the chrome on the handle was peeling. Go figure why the whole panel had to be replaced. In any event, the holes for the switches were about 1/4 inch off of where they were on the original. It took an OK from the muckety mucks in Detroit to OK splicing in the wires to move the switches to match the new holes. Should not have needed splicing, or approval, but it did.
