Where to Keep Spare Change in a Solstice

I originally wrote this as a PM to someone who mentioned the lack of good places to keep loose change in the Solstice, but I noticed someone else had posted a similar complaint, so I thought it might be worth posting it as a public thread and seeing if anybody else could chime in with additional ideas.

I also have a mod to contribute that I will post this weekend when I have time to take some pictures. It isn't really a Solstice mod, I've done this with almost every car I've owned. It involves mounting a change dispenser under the dash.

There are already three good places for change in the Solstice. One may not be an option for you, the other two you may not be aware of--I discovered them by reading a Pontiac Performance magazine.

1. If you have a manual transmission, you can toss your change into the shifter boot. It stays put here pretty well, but if you have an automatic that's not an option, and the jingling might get on your nerves.

2. There is a pocket on the front of the seat. I was totally unaware of this until recently, but it's very handy for change, sunglasses, maps, etc. (Unfortunately, most seat covers hide them.)

3. There is a slot that runs along the door sill. (Open your door and look down.) I thought this was to collect rainwater or something, but it has no outlet and normally stays dry. This is intended for change, pens and pencils, thin cell phones, cigars, etc.

Since 95% of my driving is solo I use a *Wedge* for beverage, cell phone, and change holding. Its completely removalable when you have a passenger - the best solution I've found.

Also, the placement of a vinyl bag for use as storage along the transmission tunnel - one or both sides. A piece of double sided 3m tape, pull out the edge, slip it in and TADA, you've got an extra storage pocket. I have used mine (it has two pockets) for CDs, cell phone, 2-way radio, pen, etc.

Let's see................
one golf ball, one lighter, a few tees and enough change for a gallon of gas are lodged between my seat and console!!!!!!!!!!

But also stuck there is a double pouch for sunglasses, 1.75 reading glasses, cell phone, tums, pen, tums, spare lighter, more change.

Is the "Wedge" what's shown in the picture? That does look like a good idea.

Where do you get these double-pocket vinyl bags?

Thanks!

Has anyone found a visor organizer that fits these sun visors well and still allows them to fold up into the windshield valence?

I've seen a CD organizer advertised, but I didn't get it because I thought the curvature of the visor would be problematic. Has anybody used one of these? (It might work better to velcro it to the tranny hump.)

The *Wedge* and the Vinyl bag (actually a trash bag) can both be found at any of the larger discount chains in the Automotive Dept for about $5 each.

I don't think an organizer attached to the sun vizor would be helpful at all, personally. Unless you put it on the outside of the vizor, where it's visible. It couldn't go on the backside. the vizors are totally flush...

I keep an empty altoid's tin in my John Denver for loose change.

I've searched and searched, but haven't found a small enough visor organizer for the Sol.

First you have to put them on a server somewhere. I use my .Mac account or the server in my basement, depending on what mood I'm in. There has been a lot of discussion elsewhere about other services you can use, but I can't recall any of the names right now because I've never used any of them. Anyway, once you've successfully uploaded them to a server and can view them in a browser, you can just copy the URL (the address you see in your browser's address bar) and paste it into the dialog that opens when you click on the "Insert Image" button in the editing toolbar. (It's the yellow square with two mountains beneath a square sun or something.) There is a Test forum where you can try this out, and there is also a Forum Help/Forum Information forum where you can get help with questions like this.

i have the soultion for change....
its a small spot but it works well. top up or down.

pulled the box up a bit so you could see it.

it does not make contact with the top. a rattle is very rare and when present its the mints inside the box, not the box in its hole. no worries about it when putting the top up or down.

1.99 soloution for where to put change and still have it easily accessable for tolls or what ever.

you can even get the mint box in blue if you desire.

if anyone wants the mint tins pre emptied im selling empties for 9.99.... lol

I had suggested that slot in the roof in the earlier thread. Using the turnpike daily, I find that it holds plenty of quarters and the other things you need to keep handy.
