The CAD file has been re-built and re-submitted to a local shop for a prototytpe to be quoted out. Because of their limited bed size on the printer, I had to split the 2 part grill assembly in half which is distinguised by the obvious colors.
Hope to get a quote this week and if the price is right, then I'll take it to the next level.
hope everything works out. i really would like a pair on mine. good luck

Look out, you've got your blinders on
Everybody's looking for a way to get real gone
Well here I come and I'm so not scared,
Got my pedal to the metal, got my hands in the air
Look out, you take your blinders off
Everybody's looking for a way to get real gone

Posted the attached photo of GM's custom GXP-R grills before but given the discussion is coming up again, for those who have not seen the real thing you may enjoy and hopefully push for the fog lamp surrounds to follow the same fashion GM's supplier did. From the CAD drawings I like what I see but just follow the same design as in the pictures for the fog lamp surrounds.
Funny thing I was at GM's Western Region Fleet meeting today where they previewed all current and future products and had some time after lunch to show off my GXP to the Buick/Pontiac manager for the region--explained how Pontiac has to improve on the front grills given the factory ones currently just do not reflect the quality exterior look of the car and basically to me look cheap.
He listened but he is just too far removed to do much about this and little to no hope GM is going to do anything. By the way the future product plans for the Solstice they showed during the meeting simply showed the Solstice will go unchanged with no refresh or revisions other than the Coupe model for '09--the product schedule shown went out to 2011.
Did drive the G8 and it is a nice car but interior to me looked a bit cheap. The presenter talked about how the G8 compared to the BMW 5 Series--please...........The G8 is nice but clearly not in the same league as a 5 Series.

Had a bit of time tonight so I whipped up a different style of a recessed grill for the fog lights. I separated the main inlet into two portholes to make it different from the SEMA blue sol version. I plan to add a honeycomb grill, similar to the main recessed grill pattern, recessed on the top porthole and leave the bottom functional one open. You'll see that the fascia bumper behind the upper part of the grill cuts right into the porthole tunnel on top and part of the bottom. Which means that, that inside surface, that's normally behind the grill, will need to be removed. And since the fascia is made out of a flexible plastic material, I don't think that the alteration will be difficult to do.
Thanks Rudy, I'll think I'll just go with the recessed grills.

This is in line with what I've heard since '07, and there appears to be no changes to that. The move to the Alpha platform will require changes. The car will get larger, and will get a bigger trunk. Interior upgrades (ala Malibu) are on the list.. but could get sacrificed if tooling / production costs run a muck.

I agree with you there... I don't understand why Pontiac keeps doing this. Cadillac is the BMW competition at GM, NOT Pontiac. If they go after the correct target market, they will do fine. Marketing needs some help in this brand.
ON TOPIC:
Not sure I like the split fog light. I'll have to look at my GXP and see the facia behind it, I didn't even realize it was there.
I luv the GXP-R grills on that SEMA Solstice, I'd definitely be interested in something like that. Although I'd keep the ones on the around the foglights the same as the SEMA version, although the two porthole idea is still nicer than stock.

The interior upgrade is probably what is most needed.

I think what GM is trying to do is use BMW as a dynamic benchmark for Pontiac. Which I think is a grea
