I don't want to sound like a dick but is 800 really all that much more when your already paying 30k. Thats 2.6%. I'm willing to bet it cost GM more to build the coupe than roadster. Lets let them try to profit off a vehicle sometime. We all know in 2 years theyll be getting all sorts of discounts anyways.
I just can't get around the soft-top being an option. You can't put the removable panel in the trunk (hatch) and they make you pay extra for the soft top? That's just plain asinine.
They either should have included it in the base price or just made a real coupe (not a targa) with an optional sun-roof.
A company that just came to me for a hand-out so they can survive is not going to sell me a product by treating me like a tool. It's that "this is the way we made it, this is how you're going to buy it" attitude that has contributed to pissing so many people off and making them turn away from their product.
So I'm going to pout and have a hissy fit because I didn't get what I want.
I've already gone through that stage. I called and canceled my coupe order this morning. It's not that I can't afford the difference, just that it's much more than I care to spend. That and my dealer is just a bit too greedy.
C'est ls vie!

I think the real disappointment is that all along, word coming from Lutz was that this car was going to be around $1000 cheaper, not $800 more expensive. That's about 6% ($1800) higher than what people were expecting. It also takes the car from being cheaper, to more expenisve than some other intriguing options on the market.
I don't think anyone would begrudge GM from a profit. However, this isn't charity either. People simply will not buy a product they don't feel is a good value, and I am not sure many will see th is as a good value. Also, there is not much good will out there towards GM where people will pay more as a charity to keep them afloat. They are already doing that, against their will, in the form of "bridge loan" bailouts.
The Z's are a great case study. Here is the pricing structure on some cars offered as both coupe and convertable...
Nissan 350Z Coupe $30,210 Convertable $36,280 (comapring enthusiast trim level of ea)
Pontiac G6 Coupe $29,150 Convertable $32,540 (Also of note the Coupe is a GXP, with a better engine and trans than 'vert)
BMW Z4 Coupe $36,700 Convertbale $40,700 (designed to be 'vert originally like Sol)
Porsche Boxster $45,800 Caymen $49,400 (base version of ea)
2008 Crossfire Coupe $35,705 Convertable $40,100 (Structure is MB SLK, designed to be 'vert originally like Sol)
Corvette Coupe $49,415 Convertable $54,070 (Also a good comparo, since the structure of the Sol is modelled after this car, and the "coupe" is also really a targa)
Ford Mustang Coupe $18,030 'Vert $22,227
So here are 7 examples... there are some others. The coupe is significantly cheaper with 6 of these 7. The Corvette has a similar structure, was designed to have a beefed up structure for both versions since the coupe is a targa, and is probably the closest comapison. The Z4 and Crossfire's (MB SLK's) structures were also designed to be roadsters from the outset.
So I am not buying the argument of "structure" or the physical differences as justification to charge more.

As a stock holder, I think GM should just stick to doing what they do best. Building great pickup trucks and SUVs with lots of options. They should leave the car business to those who do it best.
I haven't looked forward to the release of a new car in over 20 years as much as I am looking forward to the GXP Coupe. Though I won't be ordering one until I can first sit in the coupe, I am sure I will be ordering shortly afterwards. It reminds me of a '64 Daytona coupe crossed with some early Jaguar influence mixed with modern styling. Nothing against the 'verts (awesome looking), but it took the coupes' lines to make me wake up. The next couple months are going to be torture! (but the future will most likely be pure bliss). And no other new car release can change my new found love.

It would look like the Blue or Gold Cards in the upper left corner.
Although there are some original card accounts that migrated to the World Card and kept there original earnings/redemption rules.

Welcome to the forum Fergy! I hope the car, in the flesh, is everything you hope it to be!

I've lurked off and on with my dad being a member here, but I joined to specifically post in this thread.
If I were in the market for this car, I'd be outraged at the pricing. While the Solstice is a good car, the price GM is wanting for the coupe is simply way too much. I'd go so far as saying it is now one of the most over priced cars on the market. $36k fully loaded for a Pontiac? No thanks.
There are many cars out there for less or just a bit more that give you more bang for you buck. I can see this sticker price driving many people that were on the fence towards the 370Z now. There is no way in hell this car would be at the top of my list now. Overall, I am very disappointed in the way GM has gone about dealing with the Coupe.
For those that still want the Solstice Coupe, haggle haggle and haggle some more. Do NOT pay sticker price for this car or a cent over. It isn't worth it.
Wicked 2009 Solstice GXP Coupe on order 24 October 2008 Produced 7 April 2009 Delivered 6 May 2009 VIN 1G2MT25X59Y000038 (Watched her come off the truck)

There has been no announced differences between redemption allowances for the 2009 Solstice Roadster and 2009 Solstice Coupe.
So you will be able to use the appropriate level of earnings based on the card you hold, as long as it is compatible with the delivery type and other incentives.
Any of the special offers that come out on occassion could also add to the redemption amounts, for those that receive them.
Yes, $1,000 for those holding a card with redemption limits.
Good information SD. I was wondering about that based on which card you hold and which solstice you purchase...and of course, the recently added $2000 "topped off" bonus from GM.
I've purchased three solstice and used the card for $5800 discount...which is obviously more than $1000 each. -Lumix
My only question: Can you order it with the ZOK pkg? A deadly mistake if the answer is no IMHO.
